Error code 1706
I am randomly getting error 1706-No valid source could be found for product
Microsoft Office 2000 Disc 2. The Windows Installer can not continue. I get this error upon start up and randomly no matter what I am doing. Very frustrating!! I haven't even tried to use Microsoft Office in forever. Does anyone know how to fix this?? -- Trish |

Common issue - What happens is that Office isn't usually installed
with 100% of it's available components. A call to an uninstalled part of Office triggers it to find/locate the setup software so it can install the unavailable option. To fix this you'll need to supply the 2nd Office disk or point it to a disk location where the Office installer is located. Until the software is provided the PC will continuously try to load/prompt you. Later versions of Office place the installer in a folder called MSOCache so it can load missing pieces without calling for the CD. Unfortunately there isn't a simple solution to get this resolved. Oh, by the way and for the sake of others, microsoftprosupport.com is NOT a Microsoft site (so it's possible patelnolan post is disguised spam). That site hides behind GoDaddy's private registration service. IANA demands that a responsible party be listed as the contact for every domain registration, so some registrars will assume that responsibility so the real registrants can hide. Hmm, now why would registrants want to hide who they are? From a reverse DNS lookup: www.microsoftprosupport.com = 192.186.214.64 192.186.214.64 = ip-192-186-214-64.ip.secureserver.net An IPwhois on that IP address shows it is allocated to GoDaddy's IP pool. So the site is hosted at GoDaddy and the site owner is hiding behind GoDaddy's private domain registration service. Microsoft doesn't use GoDaddy as a webhoster. Individuals and small companies do that. "Live Assist provides Chat Support, Remote technical support and E mail support." So the OP (patelnolan) linked to a web page where it is expected you chat with the site operator(s). It isn't just a help page. When you look at their web pages, especially their home page, they really want you to think that you visited a Microsoft web site. Nope. The "Live Assist" chatting popup on every one of their web pages is quite annoying and obtrusive (obliterates part of the web page you want to read, requiring you to keep closing it on visiting every web page). They have another fake Microsoft site at www.microsoftliveassist.com. Here is the ancient thread to which patelnolan replied: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/micr...I/D4dUEDwWbPoJ So 5 years later patelnolan thinks the OP is still awaiting a response. Fishing around trying to find something to generate traffic to a spammed site is what spammers do: pretend to help but the real intent is to spam the site and drum up some business. Too bad the page that patelnolan cited is useless hinting as to what support you'll get from there. And what was patelnolan's severely late response? To visit a web page that provides no help at all at a site that he is spamming that hides its domain registration and pretends to be a Microsoft site. Guess those faux pas sites aren't generating enough revenue so patelnolan has to drum up some business by spamming them here. |
