Default Windows disappear, have to streth open

This is something that happens occasionally, and it is a small annoyance but
I'm curious as to why it happens:

I will have a file minimized and when I click on it down at the taskbar
nothing happens. I close the file and when I reopen it the window has been
completely shrunk. What I mean is that I have to click-and-drag the corner
to stretch the window open again. I use Windows XP professional.

Anyone familiar with this? Thanks in advance.

Try this. When you have dragged the window to the size you want it to be,
click on the Maximise button in the RH top corner. Then click it again and
you should find that the window returns to the size you had set.
