Default "Detecting Proxy Settings" Issue

Apparently unusually, ive had no real problems with SP2
except that when i load up a new internet explorer window
it says "detecting proxy settings" in the info bar
(bottom left) and doesn't load any websites for 5-10
minutes.

I've also experienced problems logging into MSN messenger
(V.6.2)

Help would be apprieciated

Thanks,
Dom

Turn off the auto-detection of the proxy in the LAN settings in Internet
Explorer if you don't need them. If you do need them, confirm that they are
correctly configured.
