Default Computer does not recognize printer attached to another comput

have you run the network wizard on both machines? It's somewhere in the
networking control panel.

Alan, I mentioned this in my list of suggested steps on 2/5. Johnnie, I
looked over your answer again and you said that sharing was on on both
computers, but you did not say how you determined that. The Network
Connection Wizard, which I think is what Alan is referring to, does more
than just simply turn sharing on or off. For example, it adds a File and
Printer Sharing exception to the Windows Firewall configuration. In any
case, this has helped me in the past with these kinds of problems.

Again, one way to get to it is via All Programs Accessories
Communication.

When you browse to the remote machine, there should be a Printers and Faxes

I have a somewhat similar problem. MOM can see DAD's printer on my home
network, but when SON attaches his laptop to the home network, he can access
DAD's files but cannot see the printer at all!

Is SON laptop joined to the same workgroup as the other machines. Also is
the spooler running on the laptop?

Dear Alan and Paul,

I would like to thank you both for your time and effort in helping me. I've
decided that this is creating too much frustration and discontent on my part,
so I will stop. It shouldn't be this hard to have a home network, microsoft
should have given much more detailed instructions from the beginning (i.e.,
creating an account, logging on to other computers, etc.). I have reached a
point that I think it's better to just connect another printer to MOM.

Again, thanks to both of you.

You're welcome.

I too struggled to set up a home network at my in laws that allowed printer
sharing. But then again, one of my in laws is prone to downloading spyware
and he can't even ping himself without getting a socket error 65, so that's
probably why! I have given up for now.
