I'm looking for a free utility
Wow! Thanks for the blast from the past! XtreeGold was one of my fav DOS
utilities. I often wondered what happened to those old utilities... BUT HOWEVER THE THING IS that won't work for me. I need something that scans the entire hard drive and shows me at a glance which folders are taking up the most space. As I said, I have 146gb on a drive and most of it is full but I can't tell where the space is being taken. Anyone else have any suggestions? Bikini Browser Sam Juan Puerto Rico Start, Search, For Files or Folders, Search all Folders, do a search under "What size is it?" and specify a size until you find the large files or folders that are taking up so much space. Don't have to download or pay for it; it's already included in Windows. I'm looking for a free utility
WinDirStat or SequoiaView.
The first is at http://windirstat.sourceforge.net/ They do a very nice graphical display of files as rectangles whose area is proportional to their size. Easy to spot big files. I'm not sure about SequoiaView in Vista 64, but I'm using WinDirStat here with no problems. I thought I had a shortcut to SequoiaView, but I can't find it, so I suggest Googling. SequoiaView is a great free program for finding your big files (and small ones, too, if you look closely). Bill |
