Default Xp Messenger

Greetings Walter,

This is correct -- the 'Start Camera' option is only available on Windows XP. In order to
have a voice/video conversation with someone using a previous version of Windows, you'll need
to use Netmeeting. To do so, just ask your contact to click the Actions menu in their
Messenger client on their previous Windows version, and choose "Start Netmeeting". This
option doesn't appear by default on Windows XP, but you'll be able to accept the request. As
well, if you want to add Start Netmeeting back to your own Windows Messenger client, close
down messenger (right-click icon in the notification area/system tray and click Exit), then
click Start, point to All Programs and right-click the Windows Messenger shortcut and click
Properties. Then, click the compatibility tab, and check the box next to 'Run this program in
compatibility mode for' and choose Windows 2000. Click OK, and then go into the start
menu/all programs again, and click the Windows Messenger shortcut you just modified. Note
that the built-in Messenger voice/video support will be deactivated if you go into
compatibility mode -- just turn off compatibility mode to have it back.

Also, another solution is to use MSN Messenger 5:
http://messenger.msn.com/download/download.asp?client=1

and the Webcam for MSN Messenger support:
http://messenger.msn.com/support/webcam.asp

Both of these will work on previous Windows versions and XP. However, this is for "webcam"
snapshots only -- it's not voice/video conference-type that Windows Messenger or Netmeeting
has.
