Game problem I can't fix
Usually uninstalling and reinstalling wonky software works. In this case a
kid's game. But this game, my daughter's favorite, keeps stopping after she plays it for about 5 minutes. Sometimes 10 minutes. It worked fine on W7, never a lock up or the "Engine has stopped working" error. The game is called Fishdom-3 and is supposed to work on W10. None of the compatibility setting made a difference. I uninstalled and reinstalled fresh copies of this game several times but cannot find anything in the registry to remove after uninstalling it. It's leaving something behind. Yet when I reinstall the new copy just downloaded from the 'net her info is still there as well as the level she was at when the old copy froze. Where is this game hiding this info? Would THAT be causing the problem? Why would a new copy just downloaded have access to that info when the older copy of the game was uninstalled? Where and how can I find where that info is stored so it can be removed? How can I make this kid happy by fixing this problem? |

I'd use the scanning mode of "Advanced" and tell it to delete what it finds. Easy to miss checking the delete boxe(s) and leaving the extra crap behind. I'd do the above before trying to install the W10 special edition just so the old and new versions don't get mixed together. You can find the program at; https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo..._download.html |

I knew something was being left behind. It's frustrating to be unable to remove it. To not know where it is on this Notebook. I have to wonder if other software does the same when uninstalled. I didn't want what was left behind messing up a new version, a new install. Malwarebytes may have to go on this notebook. I can replace it with something else. The Fishdom-3 game is not incompatible with W-10 at all. |

When she plays the game she has to exit Malwarebytes first. I just keep eliminating one thing after the other until all that was left was Malwarebytes. Something in that software causes the game to stop, to freeze after it runs for awhile. She's had no problems with the game since. I'm still curious where the info for this game is stored, the player's name and game level, AFTER the game is removed. I see others are having issues with this game. Hope they all work it out. |

Glad you sorted it out. Which anti-malware program was causing it, and did you consider letting them know? You might consider posting for other people who are having problems too if you're feeling generous with your time. |

C:\ProgramData\Playrix Entertainment\Fishdom 3\GameInfo.xml (Located via Agent Ransack and a search for "^fish") The game is supposed to use DirectX 9 (Win10 is supposed to have a fallback, but I haven't verified the status of that lately). Â*Â* Paul Good idea Paul, I often use Agent Ransack and Everything.exe to locate left behinds of uninstalled programs and delete them from there, to get a clean start before installing it again, Also works great for programs that won't uninstall, delete bits and pieces till the program won't run then you can uninstall it. Both are much better than what comes with Windows. |

I have FileLocatorPro, but haven't paid for the recent updates, apparently it now does what they previously said there was no need for, and generates an index ... so I don't know how much that speeds it up on filename searches |

C:\ProgramData\Playrix Entertainment\Fishdom 3\GameInfo.xml (Located via Agent Ransack and a search for "^fish") Yep, there it was. I have Agent Ransack and never thought to search for "fish." The game is supposed to use DirectX 9 (Win10 is supposed to have a fallback, but I haven't verified the status of that lately). Paul Exiting Malwarebytes before opening the game stopped the freezing and the "Engine stopped working" errors. The game actually works fine on W-10. -- Microsoft motto "if it ain't broke keep fixing it till it is." |
