Hi, Peter.

Have you tried just running your mouse pointer off the screen at the right
end of the Taskbar? If you hold the mouse there, your Desktop should
appear - but disappear when you move the mouse - unless you click the mouse
to switch to the Desktop.

Like so many other things in Windows, this behavior is configurable - and
you can learn a lot by just exploring. Or, in this case, Search for "peek
desktop", although the term "peek" is not very intuitive. to me.

We can, of course, assume you have re-booted the computer, can we not?

You can Pin to Taskbar a shortcut to show the desktop:

When I go to the program listings, desktop is shown in the alphabetic
listing. Right click on the icon and select "pin to start" It should
create a tile for your start menu.

Try search advanced system settings, then do performance settings, then enable
peek. Then click at the end of taskbar.

Hi, again, Peter.

On your Modern screen, move your Desktop time to the upper left position.
From on, just press Enter to go to that first tile, your Desktop.

Or, just use the Windows logo icon on the Taskbar - or press the Windows
key - to toggle back and forth from Modern to Desktop.

Thanks. It was there when I loaded Win8.1 and when I chose my own
suite of colors for borders/desktop/menus etc.
But with this new color selection IE11 stopped showing thumbnails in
all but a neutral grey.
Trial and mainly error showed I could get these thumbnails back by
selecting one of the default Win8.1 color schemes, a hideous orange
one for the desktop and associated better ones for all else.
I want the desktop color in a soft neutral green without any patterns
and noveaux-kitsch arty schemes. Is there any way to do this (I've
tried the ''personalization area'') because this might solve the goto-
desktop icon at the bottom right of the taskbar.
