Default Live tiles, particularly the Mail tile

A lot of people seem to have trouble with live tiles on both 8.1 and 10.
I'm no exception!

I have two machines running 8.1 and one running 10 (all three are
running natively, no VM). The mail tile on one of the 8.1 machines
hasn't displayed messages for a long time - until this morning! Now it
seems to work - but how long for? The other 8.1 machine doesn't display
anything apart from the envelope icon.

On the Windows 10 machine it displays a message all the time which I
deleted weeks ago. It's no longer on the server so it must have stored
the details somewhere on the computer - but where?

I'm not sure that I'm in desperate need for this to work but, if it's
there and is supposed to be working, then I want it to work! Other
people seem mainly to have the tiles working or not working. My problem
on the Windows 10 machine is that it displays something which isn't
there!

As MS doesn't read these groups, you're barking up the wrong tree if you
expect your message to do any good. Windows 10 hasn't been released yet
so don't expect it to work properly before then.

sigh Yes, dear!

I wrote this message to see if anyone else HERE had had the same problem
and to see if anyone knew of a work-around. That's what this newsgroup
is for, isn't it?

Of course, I've put this on the Windows feedback site. They do make it
easy by putting a tile on the start page!

Good luck with that but don't hold your breath.

Have you checked the setup inside the Mail Tile ?

Is the setup for the account valid ?

Should Mail just be turned off ?

Should some notification setting be turned off ?

In Win8x and later...the 'live' in the tile can configured to be on or
off. A sync has to occur for the data in the tile to update. Check
your settings for the respective tile and sync.

Yes, it's certainly configured to be on. At least, it is in Win 8.1.
With Win 10 there's no option to turn it on or off (yet, one hopes), but
I think it must default to on. But the thing that puzzles me most is
that, in Win 10, it displays permanently details of a message that was
deleted weeks ago. Just *where* is it storing this info? And why?

There is no option in Win 10, build 9926, to turn any of the live tiles
on or off, but most of them seem to default to on and are updating
normally. It's just the Mail tile that is behaving in this extraordinary
way.
