Installed Win 10 - surprised
First try and sending to this group.
I installed the Windows 10 yesterday and during the installation I turned off the "use touch Screen", the OS finished installing and the system was rebooted, I was surprised that I had all my icons on the desktop and not Titles. This make Windows 10 act for me as if I was Windows 7 and I'm liking it very much so far. |

I am pleased with the upgrade. If Microsoft makes some more tweaks to it, it might be okay. And of course there are 3rd party start menus still avail if you don't like the built in one. Start8 is making a Start10 available for RTM in a few weeks. $4.95. But my old clunker P4 machine works okay. Not sure I'd be able to do any gaming but it does the file sharing I need. |

For anyone who wants a Start menu that looks like Windows 7's (or XP's), Classic Shell's replacement is free and excellent. http://www.classicshell.net/ -- Joel Crump |

Well tweaks will happen (probably soon) and more often (i.e. that's Windows as a service). -- ...winston msft mvp windows experience |

They say on their website that the final will be pushed out on August 12. (I found that when I upgraded from Start8 to Start10, Start8 stayed around. I'd recommend uninstalling Start8 before installing Start10.) |

Rod. I need a new computer -- bigger screen than my 17" laptop -- but what I see of Win10 so far is very off-putting. (I'm trying it out on a tiny spare laptop.) guess I'll be squinting for a while yet. :-( bj |

I'm making that assumption since a 17" laptop isn't all that portable to begin with. I have one and I've relegated it to permanent desk duty. |

Here is a 15.6" laptop with 4K resolution (3840x2160p). http://www.toshiba.com/us/p50t You'll need your microscope to see the details. $1500 + cost_of_microscope. ******* And a quick check shows 18" laptops have all but disappeared. Using an external screen is good if you're stationary (at home). I guess they don't want you carrying around a wall-of-pixels under your arm any more. Paul |

They've always been considerably cheaper than the same thing bought in a box in a shop, as far as I know they're completely legit, and they are the only ones I've ever used. Rod. |

In what way,or, how is it different, or better than Win7? With Windows 10, Microsoft has succeeded in moving the new "Metro" API onto the desktop. It's now a reality that a program can service both touchscreen and mouse users in a single, versatile user-interface environment. They have created the successor to Windows 7 and Windows 8, all at once. -- Joel Crump |

And even more aggravating is not being able to organize your own start menu the way you want. bj |
