"Modifying index location is disabled by a policy" - huh?
I tried to change location for the index and received the
subject message. I have changed it before without any trouble. I surely don't remember changing any policy about this. How do I fix it? |

All policies are registry entries. Did you use a tweaker to modify the config of Windows? https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...s-windows.html No mention of whether you have the Home or Pro edition of Windows 10. If you are using the Home edition which doesn't come with the policy editor, you could do the registry edit as mentioned in the above article (provided you are logged under a Windows account with admin-level permissions). |

This is as close as I can get. I don't know if this locks down the path or not. You could try looking for the current path in Regedit, and modify it there if the GUI is blocked. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...s-windows.html When I was using the policy editor last, there was some column, which if you click the top of the column, sorts the policies by whether they're "configured" or not. This caused everything I've edited to "percolate" to the top of the GUI display, saving me from having to use the report thing to make a list of policies. Paul |

"Modifying index location is disabled by a policy" - huh?

I found an answer. I have the Pro edition so ran gpedit and by clicking on All Settings under Administrative Templates I was able to find three settings that seem to bear on the issue. One involved Cortana - I left that one alone, but the other two pertained to the index location and whether it could be altered. Changing them to Not Configured did the trick. Step 5 in the article that I cited. Since "Not configured" is the default, you or a program you used, like a tweaker, changed that setting assuming you're the only person which physical access to that computer and never login to a domain which can push policies. |
