Can only use computer off line..will not connect to internet... Here are a few things to try for the failed internet connection: Open Internet Options, Connections tab, click "Lan Settings" button, deselect all. Flush DNS Click Start, Run, type CMD and click the [OK] button. Type each of the following: IPConfig /FlushDNS [Press Enter key] ipconfig /release [Press Enter key] ipconfig /renew [Press Enter key] ipconfig /registerdns [Press Enter key] NETSH Click Start, Run, type CMD and click the [OK] button. Type the following: netsh winsock reset Press Enter key Restart the system You can also try this software download from a working machine: LSP-Fix http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm But for the programs not opening, try these: Burn BitDefender, or another program listed at the link below, to a CD (using a working machine) and test the infected machine with it. BitDefender also has a Rootkit checker on the Linux Desktop; run it if you think that's the problem: http://www.techmixer.com/free-bootab...download-list/ Download the executable rather than the .iso image, if one is available, (though no .exe is available for BitDefender). After the scan is run, if you elect to quarantine files, they're quarantined to RAM and lost after you reboot. You'll need to copy any quarantined files to the hard drive, a thumb drive or elsewhere before exiting. Then run these: Malwarebytes© Corporation http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam/program/mbam-setup.exe SuperAntispyware http://www.superantispyware.com/supe...freevspro.html -- Joe =o) |

you might try to right click
on the shortcut and review the properties page. in one of the tabs you will find the start-in directory and you will have the opportunity to open the directory/folder the shortcut is referencing/targeting. what you to do by the above is to double check that the shortcut is referencing the .exe file. if the shortcut has no target directory/folder, then you may have to manually re create the shortcut again. -------------- another point to consider is that your system restore may have that rogue program archived inside the restore points. so keep in mind that you may inadvertently reinstall that rogue program if you execute a restore point in the future. -- db·´¯`·...¸)))º DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - Microsoft Partner - @hotmail.com ~~~~~~~~~~"share the nirvana" - dbZen "Chicken" wrote in message ... I will check out BitDefender..used Malwarebytes to get rid of Nothing works with the advise you get on these newsgroups. Your only option is to wipe the disk clean i.e. reformat your HD and then start all over again. I would not trust any anti-spyware (or anti-viruses) once the system is breached. The fact that you got infected is indicative that these anti-viruses don't work. Also, if you had anything from Pig-Bear then "god help you" because he is a member of the geriatric society of United States and so by definition knows nothing. |
