OT Replacement HDD for DVDR
My DVDR, a Philips DVDR3575H, was designed around a 160GB PATA drive.
When the drive fails, what are the odds I can replace it with a larger drive? How much larger? ;-) What are the odds I can use a SATA drive intead of PATA? (Sillly question, since they still sell PATA drives, but silly is my middle name.) Nothing I've found says whether it's a 3.5" or 2. 5" drive. It's 13 years old. What are the odds it's 2.5"? Is there any chance it's 2.5"? (It's a lot of work to get it off the shelf and open it up to look.) (Please don't try to sell me some other method of recording TV. This is what I want and I'm not changing.) |

What are the odds I can use a SATA drive intead of PATA? (Sillly question, since they still sell PATA drives, but silly is my middle name.) low, but not zero. they are two different interfaces, so you will need an adapter, which takes up space and means the drive+adapter won't fit in a drive bay designed for just a drive unless there's extra space, which is highly unlikely. however, if the drive is 3.5", you could use a 2.5" drive with an adapter, which would fit in the larger bay. you would also need a suitable bracket or other method of securing it. it might be possible to put a drive elsewhere with cables connecting it, but there is unlikely to be any space for that and a bit of a hack even if there was. Nothing I've found says whether it's a 3.5" or 2. 5" drive. It's 13 years old. What are the odds it's 2.5"? Is there any chance it's 2.5"? (It's a lot of work to get it off the shelf and open it up to look.) there is, but given its size, it's likely to be a 3.5". do a search for a service manual and your question will be answered. (Please don't try to sell me some other method of recording TV. This is what I want and I'm not changing.) modern devices are more capable, but suit yourself. |

I'm surprised I didn't find this page myself. I read the AVS forum when I first bought the thing, and they had a sepate section for it. I don't think this is part of that, but the same compan y made the Magnavox. Paul |

It could be a Sunplus but I can't be sure. The suppliers of these things are different than in older days. The other chip makers bowed out of the market. The one I've got has a Marvell chip (and Marvell has stopped doing a number of older items). Everyones gotta eat, I guess. https://www.tivocommunity.com/commun...416883/page-12 Paul |
