Default Can't Connect to the Macrium Reflect servers

Here we go again.

I want to download the latest Marcrim Reflect Free (full installer and
PE, if possible) to install on a friends computer.

I have ReflectDLHF.exe downloader file from Major Geeks (tried from MR
as well).

Keep getting the following message:

"The download agent could not connect to the Macrium Reflect servers
for download options"

and: "The system cannot find the file specified."

Tried running as Admin too, but no help.

Also, The target computer is a Lenovo IdeaPad.
It says it has a x64 processor and a 32-bit OS (Win 10). Is 32-bit
software the right choice?

Thanks,

DC

Why would you use Majorgeeks.com to get the stub downloader ?

The Macrium site should have it. And
it will point to the current server, where ever
it is located. The file might well be the same version,
but it never hurts to be sure.

https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree

http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v7/ReflectDLHF.exe

3,758,120 bytes
SHA1: 10C0CFB5F19B7D95FAF7B651026C0441C5EF5425

The physical download comes from cloudfront.net and
that might be a CDN (content distribution network).

v7.1.3196_reflect_setup_free_x86.exe

59,232,896 bytes
SHA1: C65E77DA980D83DE362CD3F21E696A85125BDDBA

I didn't have a problem getting a download of the
main program installer. That's the 59MB thing.

The WinPE stuff likely comes from a Microsoft CDN,
so if downloading both portions (installer and WinPE),
the second file comes from elsewhere. There's no reason
to assume the Microsoft CDN is down.

Unclear if the problem is you cannot download the ReflectDLHF.exe file
or that program cannot find the server (to retrieve the full
installers).

http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v7/ReflectDLHF.exe
That downloaded okay.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/deta...e_edition.html
pick their download:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/mg/getmirr...edition,1.html
That downloaded okay, too (and faster than from Macrium's site).

Did you boot Windows into its safe mode with networking to check if the
..exe runs in safe mode? Don't know if the installer will run in safe
mode or not. If it uses MSI then probably not; however, it might do the
full installer retrieve, like into the %temp% folder where you can copy
it out, before attempting to do the install.

I'd also try downloading and installing with your security software
(firewall, anti-virus, anti-malware, etc) all temporarily disabled.

I can't help with the downloading questions; if I was making a version
for a friend, I'd probably not bother with the downloads, but make it
from whatever I already had (either make the CD from the CD-making parts
of Macrium, or just copy the CD); however, obviously, this would _not_
be the latest.

Also, The target computer is a Lenovo IdeaPad.

AIUI: it depends how you intend (or intend to instruct your friend) to
_use_ Macrium. If the intention is to run Macrium from within Windows
when making images, then, given that the OS is 32-bit, the Macrium will
have to be 32-bit. If, as I do, you (or your friend) always intend to
run Macrium to make images by booting from the CD (you _are_ of course
going to make/instruct your friend to make a CD, of course!), then, on a
system with 64-bit hardware, I think you can use either the 32- or the
64-bit Macrium; presumably there are some slight - maybe speed -
advantages to using the latter (otherwise I can't see why both would
exist).

Personally, I always make my images by booting from the CD, for two
reasons: (a) I feel happier _not_ making an image of an OS from that OS
actually running; (b) it reassures me that my CD still works, so I do
not have to discover that it has failed when I actually need it.
However, plenty of people _do_ use the software from a running system,
apparently without problems, so my reason (a) is not strong.

You said this was a safe place, a while ago.

Tried both of these links. Received the same file as before.
ReflectDLHF.exe, 3,758,120 bytes. Got the same message when running
them.

I'd like to get the main program installer (above) and the PE for Win
10 in the same download. That's what I expected and have done in the
past (I think).

Still no idea why the ReflectDLHF.exe isn't working.

Tried with AV disabled, too. Same result.

Did this fail, too? Are you using a firewall (other than the one
included in Windows)? Look at the contents of the 'hosts' file to check
the target host is getting blocked, or just rename the 'hosts' file,
say, to 'hosts.OLD', purge the local DNS cache (ipconfig.exe /flushdns),
and then try to run the program.

Use a network monitor (e.g., SysInternals' TCPview) to see to where the
..exe is trying to connect. Then open a command shell and do a
traceroute (tracert hostname) to see if you can actually get a route
between the endpoints (your host and theirs). If you cannot reach the
target host then neither will the .exe program.

I was able to get the files I wanted using my #2 Win 7 PC connected
to the same Internet connection I use daily with my #1 PC.

Seems the problem is in my #1 PC. I don't know what the cause of the
error I got when running ReflectDLHF.exe. Hear's a capture of it.

Any help appreciated.

Firewall ?

AV with its own Firewall concept ?

A DNS problem ?

Does your web browser work with www.macrium.com ?

Does "nslookup updates.macrium.com" return a number
like 5.159.225.27 ? Use a Command Prompt window
by running "cmd.exe" etc.

How many pieces of "protective" software are
loaded on the computer ? Would one of them
be interfering ?
