Default O.T. Missing Folder/files

I did look at the detail tab I don't know if these are filter entries?

https://postimg.cc/jW8KHfJH

https://postimg.cc/bdS8nsYn

I don't know if Avast has any keyboard preferences.

Program and Features do not show Sea Monkey but I do have it.

https://postimg.cc/NKgWdMtp

https://postimg.cc/D4kNLf5Q

https://postimg.cc/6TngwR5M

I couldn't find the Uninstall directory but it shows I have Ver 2.53.5.1
and it has a download for Ver 2.53.7.1 but with all the problems the
guy had with the link you gave me I'm a bit leery of doing so.

In your second Postimg, there is a Class Upper Filters,
and that probably has kbdclass (kbdclass.sys). That's
the official driver entry. There don't seem to be any
device ones in there, and I don't know what has changed
there. I looked in my Windows 7 VM for a quick reference,
and your pictures look like the Windows 7 I was looking at.
There's nothing abnormal about yours.

I agree your Programs and Features doesn't have a Seamonkey
entry, but I don't know why that is. The later releases
still seem to be using "Helper.exe". Using Agent Ransack,
you might try looking for "Helper.exe", which should be
in an uninstall folder.

While you can certainly make "portable" applications,
the advantage of a proper installer, is the Program Files
folder is protected with TrustedInstaller ownership.
A portable install would lack such protection.

The only problem with upgrading, would be that the
Profile is brought forward to the newer release, and
then it's not a good idea to "go backward" on release
number. You could do the usual thing, make a backup,
test, roll back if there is trouble. Or a more surgical
approach, is to just back up the profile folder(s) and
copy it back if there is trouble. (Copy it back over
top, then install 2.53.5.1 which aligns with that
profile.) But that requires finding the blasted things.

An Agent Ransack search for "Profiles.ini" , will find
identifier information for all Mozilla-based software
products. Thunderbird, Firefox, Seamonkey use profiles.ini.
Profiles.ini is a text file. The 8 digit identifier in
there, then helps you find the folder(s) that need
backup. If you were using all three of those programs,
there would be three "profiles.ini" and each would
be stored in a different folder. The product name in
the folder path, tells you whether you have located
the correct one.

I checked and neither computer has Sea Monkey listed in
Programs and Features.

I ran Agent Ransack(basic) and it found Helper.exe for SeaMonkey

https://postimg.cc/kBnDPnhF

It sounds like creating a clone at this point is a bad idea if I were
to go backwards to fix it because I would be in the same mess as
the guy in the link you gave but how do we resolve the problem ?

I did a search on Agent Ransack(basic) for Profiles.ini and it also
found Sea Monkey

How do I proceed?

Here is how you back up the Seamonkey folders for later.
Two data folders to back up.

You could back up Profiles.ini file as well, but
there isn't much reason for it to change.

In total, there are a bunch of things, but you don't
need all of them.

Program Files === This is handled by the SM Installer

profiles.ini === Has the identifier of which folder is important.
Double click to open in Notepad.
Profiles === Folder next to profiles.ini
Contains multiple profiles sometimes but not always.
These guys are in the Roaming section.

Roaming === SQlite databases. \___ The named folder
Local === Cache folder. Cache2 is mostly junk. / in each.

Here is a sample picture of a Windows 7 Seamonkey setup.
I have put the named folders, into separate folders for
later, to keep which is which straight.

https://i.postimg.cc/26m4Qvk5/seamon...le-folders.gif

*******

Double-clicking Helper.exe should cause Seamonkey to uninstall.
I expect it is reading the log file next to Helper.exe,
to figure out what to delete. It will not delete the
two "named" folders.

When you go from 2.53.5 to 2.53.7, there is nothing to do
to the "named" folders (you made your *backup* before
installing 2.53.7).

Seamonkey will adjust the folder contents for the
new (2.53.7) version of software.

However, if you install 2.53.5 again in place of
2.53.7, now the "named" folders need to be rolled back.
You delete the "local" one and the "roaming" one, then
go to your backup stick, and copy the "local" to the "local",
the "roaming" to the "roaming". Then, when you install
the 2.53.5 older one, the version of Seamonkey matches
the two "named" folders. No file modification is necessary
by Seamonkey, because it notices the versions match.

As long as you don't lose the named materials, you should
be able to figure out, with Agent Ransack searches, where these
items are. Only too much "deleting", would remove all traces
of what the profile name should be. And the backed-up
folders have the name in them too.

I couldn't find the folders to backup Sea Monkey:

https://postimg.cc/rRXw4Nq5

https://postimg.cc/5QBNSQtT

https://postimg.cc/RNm0VdsB

https://postimg.cc/v4q8hsQY

So I can go ahead and install Sea Monkey but does it matter
that the folders weren't found ? If I install the new version won't
it create new folders?

I was thinking, if we uninstall it now, when there's no folders
to backup Sea Monkey then we would have to load the newer
version without having to roll back, is that correct?

Since there's no backup folders it seems there's something
wrong with Sea Monkey itself which may explain the backspace key
problem once we try it out.

What do you think?

The profiles.ini string is eight characters long.

Your Agent Ransack is missing one of the letters
and is only seven characters long.

You could copy the string from Notepad, and paste
it into Agent Ransack.

It's just your search that needs another try.
No reason to panic quite yet.

That's exactly what I did, I copy pasted it and it was the
correct eight character string ( 5f03gcl6). I'll try it again
just to make sure using copy/paste again. It did it again
with the exact same results I gave you.

https://postimg.cc/ftRG4YHY

https://postimg.cc/RNHjzSTp

btw when running a second time I notice there's more profiles
listed.

Go back to my example for a moment. There are two folders
we are looking for, total, and one of them is "close" to the
profiles.ini file, one of them is further away. and searching
with Agent Ransack was intended to make this easy.

https://i.postimg.cc/26m4Qvk5/seamon...le-folders.gif

C:\Users\BoB\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Seamonkey
profiles.ini === says 377otus0 in my example
Profiles
377otus0.default === profile folder for "Roaming" one

In other words, you can "open file location" for profiles.ini item
and navigate down from there, to one of the folders. Just
as a way of double-checking that it exists.

C:\Users\BoB\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Seamonkey\Pro files\377otus0.default

It would be highly irregular, for a profiles.ini to not have
a folder corresponding to what it says. Like, I can't think
of a failure mechanism that would do that, without
human interaction to ruin it :-) Even if you uninstall Seamonkey,
the profiles.ini, the Profiles folder, the Profiles folder content,
should remain there. The only time it should be making a
brand new value of "377otus0.default" is if the software is
being installed for the first time. Or, that the software
thinks it is being installed for the first time, and
Mozilla\Seamonkey never existed.

To be able to see AppData while traversing the file system
in File Explorer, you need to enable a certain setting.
AppData is a Hidden Folder. Once the visibility is turned on,
you can go there.

https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...show-hide.html

To avoid this step is simple. Go back to your
Agent Ransack search for Profiles.ini. Click Profiles.ini
and use the right-click option to open the file system
to that point. That will show you the contents of the
Seamonkey folder in AppData.

In other words, once you "get below" AppData, things
will improve.

Why does Microsoft do things like this ?
I haven't a clue. Just to add to the misery I suppose.

This is one of the "first steps" to setting up Windows here,
is turning on the Hidden visibility, then clicking "Apply to All Folders"
so everything hidden is visible. It doesn't make the nicest
display (some files you don't want, also become visible),
but it's better than having to "swerve around" AppData
all the time.

I re-did it and as you can see there are more profiles as I said
including another Sea Monkey. I've highlighted them for you
then expanded the screen so you see what they both say. I right
clicked but how do I open the file system ? I tried Notepad but it
gave me the same result of course with no AppData showing then
tried Open but it just gave me the character string.

In passing, the 8500 is getting harder to start. It doesn't
have the same kind of start button as the 780 and in it
takes me half a dozen tries before it connects. Once it
connect's it's fine. I try not to push too hard (maybe that's
the problem) otherwise I fear of damaging the power supply
if I do but I shouldn't have to press it down hard either. It
should boot immediately like the 780.

Also Macrium had an update but had an error 403 on both
the 780 and 8500:

Thought/suggestions?

I tried it again and this I went into Explore and it gave me
the AppData. I was going through the files of 5f03gcl6 and
it shows Chrome folder. Can I delete that? I don't want Chrome
on my computers. I don't know how that got there unless its
part of Sea Monkey ?
