Why not just do a clean install?

I suspected it's the OS upgrade process that created problems,
especially for those who were NOT using system defaults. Everyone did
some form of customization to their Window$.

This is localized customization of a one type - file association, not as
you've appeared to imply - some form of customization to Windows(i.e.
more global than a file extension).

After looking at some forum post there could be more to this pie than
MSFT has revealed.
If user changes to file associations are causing issues after installing
the KB, why are Support personnel(typically outsourced 3rd party
non-MSFT employees) recommending to uninstall the KB on Win10 - doesn't
make sense since this KB is a security update and Win10 will just
automatically install the same KB after a Windows Update check. That
approach would be acceptable if a revised KB was able to identify each
and every known suspect app(which MSFT has aleady identified as known,
not necessarily 'all') and not reset a file association to Win10
defaults - that would be unrealistic to approach for even a small
subset. The real issue is more likely 'how less hardy' and 'more
tolerant' is MSFT willing to make the KB if it is considering re-issue
and all without impacting the intent of the security update.

WRONG! It was NOT worth reading. It was stupid... for stupid people.

The part where you can change the default apps was pretty informative, if
you just fell off a turnip truck and did not know that - because you're a
stupid whiney old person who complains all the time about Windows 10 then
says they're rolling back to Windows 7 blah-blah-blah... This is an
insignificant issue that dates back to the February 9th update (KB3135173).

You should post your stupid posts in the stupid posts for stupid people
groups. Otherwise, you merely PROVE your continuing irrelevance and
ongoing stupidity which you obviously inherited from your retarded parents.

this is why I didn't bother looking at it - a potential MS shill,
shoving a link at us with no summary or indication *WHY* it's 'worth
reading'.

there's too much of that kind of *SHILL* ****** over on
answers.microsoft already, where the moderators show *favoritism* to the
shills and fanbois, and are overly critical towards anyone who's even
*slightly* critical of "the cult of microsoft" and Win-10-nic.

I expect *this* link to point to similar *SHILL* ******. Am I right?
