Default Windows / File Explorer Replacement

Win XP and onward.

I am sick and tired of Windows / File Explorer and its stupid interface
! I was hoping that Win 10 would fix that bad behavior but NOT !

All this crap just wastes time for the user and serves no purpose.

The mouse does not scroll over the pane it is over !

The Folders pane jumps around when there is no reason for it !

Open a folder and the folder goes to the bottom of the pane. NO STOP THAT !

Such poor MS Windows programmers.

Why can they not make it more stable !
They have full access and control over their tree and listview controls etc.

It wastes users time having to re-scroll to where it is where it was and
can cause errors when a user misses the scrollbar or folder or file when
the user should not even have had to mess with anything.

I need an explorer that does not jump around and knows that the mouse is
over a pane so that pane scrolls.

Anyway, is there some free 3rd party Explorer replacement ?

Then what about a paid Explorer replacement ?

I DO NOT WANT a bunch of extra bells and whistles, just a better
Explorer. I do not need more confusion.

Thank you !

Yes, lots.

Then what about a paid Explorer replacement ?

Yes, a few.

_Try_ Classic Shell (free); I don't know if it will do all you want. It
_does_ include bits for IE and for the start menu as well as for
explorer, but all three parts are individually configurable (I think you
can even not install them, if you really want).

Thank you !

I'm thinking Linux is an alternative.

Think of the stories you'll have to tell when you get back.

I like and recommend Directory Opus, but whether there would be too
many bells and whistles for you, I don't know.

https://www.gpsoft.com.au/order_intro.html

That does look really pretty! Very well done
and dual pane too. No wonder you like it.

Drawback: I can't be putting Paid software on my
customer's machines just so I can have a better
experience for the few times I am there.

Any open source ones you like as well?

Funny, none of the above ever happen to or bother me. Be more specific
about your petty grumbles, or go get a hobby.

This has a clean interface (imo), loads really fast, and allows multiple
tabs - which can be very useful.

Yeah, and it is STILL tied with the Browser!

The mouse does not scroll over the pane it is over !

http://antibody-software.com/web/sof...der-the-mouse/

The Folders pane jumps around when there is no reason for it !

Classic Shell fixes that a little.

Open a folder and the folder goes to the bottom of the pane.

Not quite sure, I remember seeing that, but I cannot reproduce right now.

It wastes users time having to re-scroll to where it is where it was and
can cause errors when a user misses the scrollbar or folder or file when
the user should not even have had to mess with anything.

The one I like is when you open control panel. It shows 3/4 of the icons
right away, so you move your mouse to the one you want and click, but by
that time the missing 1/4 is appearing and you end-up clicking something
else. Happens to me ALL the time.

I need an explorer that does not jump around and knows that the mouse
is over a pane so that pane scrolls.

Anyway, is there some free 3rd party Explorer replacement ?

DOpus is probably the best replacement out there, but it's expensive and
full of bells. There is also:

Agreed, it's clean, very fast (instant for me), and also is a single
executable that doesn't seem to require any installation. I see among
its options that you can select whether it replaces explorer or not;
can't quite see how that would work, unless you run it at startup, or it
actually deletes the default explorer which would be dangerous.

There are four versions - free and paid, portable and not. Note that the
free one stopped development 2017 January, but is still available as of
now.

Allows panes rather than tabs (though possibly only two), which is
probably easier for dragging.

Compare free and paid at https://www.xyplorer.com/features.php - note
that this table is blank in older browsers, how silly!

This (from softpedia anyway) is an installer, though the readme says it
doesn't put anything in the registry but uninstall information.
