utorrent full offline installer or portable app
Is there an off network full offline utorrent installer that isn't a stub?
I tried uTorrent Stable 3.5.5 build 44954 but it's not a full offline exe. https://www.utorrent.com/downloads/win Name: uTorrent.exe Size: 2982880 bytes (2912 KiB) SHA256: DA42E4D2B88D5DDE8005742E640474BF4E136C85926D65F369 0075F4477547A5 When I run that with the network cable disconnected it proves to be a stub. Warning: The 'utorrent' installation process requires Internet connection. Please make sure that yoyur computer is connected to the internet. Same thing happened when I tried a portable app utorrent. https://portableapps.com/apps/intern...rrent_portable Name: uTorrentPortable_3.5.4.44520_online.paf.exe Size: 3005624 bytes (2935 KiB) SHA256: 5FC1D89B17CF3220661F33BCCAD81C3EF8ABC70823C745792D C710338CF7222D When I run it with the network cable disconnected, it proves to be a stub. uTorrent Portable | PortableApps.com Installer The installer was unable to download uTorrent. The installation of the portable app will be incomplete without it. Please try installing again. (ERROR: SendRequest Error) Installation aborted. Then I tried sourceforge to get the full offline utorrent executable. https://sourceforge.net/projects/por...nt%20Portable/ Name: PortableApps.com_Platform_Setup_15.0.2.paf.exe Size: 5117416 bytes (4997 KiB) SHA256: 65E95458BDB40290D1207408834B6E8F9B20E3F374925D1885 103AF0D210EDE8 But that turns out to be only an empty portable apps downloader gui. |

Looks like it's mainly an adware/PUPS delivery vehicle. No wonder it uses a stub loader. We would not want to scan that with Virustotal or Windows Defender or something, no siree. ******* The comments section gives some recommended clients. https://www.techsupportalert.com/ins...ithout-toolbar ******* http://help.utorrent.com/customer/po...ticles/2054417 "Note that it is not our clients themselves that are flagged under either category, but occasionally our partner install offers that are flagged in this "potentially unwanted program" category. " Occasionally, which means "always". Hahaha. The partner you partnered with is evil. But, you won't stop partnering with them, because "money is money" after all. ******* Is there a Linux client of any sort ? Does it crash ? A quick check in Linux shows a qbittorrent. For linux packages kept inside a package manager, generally the binary comes from a compilation of source code. No tricks like is possible with Windows delivery mechanisms. If on the other hand, you got a .ppa version of a torrent client, anything could be possible (those operate on a "trust" system). You can run Linux in a VM - except when you're VPNing or whatever, in which case the networking could be "ugly". A VM could be using TAP/TUN and bypassing some of the regular Windows interface points, which can complicate hooking in other comms features. I think one of my VMs claims to be on another subnet for example, which means it's doing something a bit different. If you weren't using a VPN, then a VM might be a simple option. Note that I don't know a thing about torrenting, and it shows. Good Luck. Paul |

But of course, you'd already know that, eh?!! I firmly recommend that you avoid Torrents completely - before your activities are brought to the attention of the security services. You do realize you can do stuff like download perfectly legitimate Linux distros via torrent, right ? Torrenting is used to reduce the cost of distributing Linux to end users. There is no "automatic guarantee" that a torrent user is a street criminal... Much as you'd like to think so. ******* Did you know you could "steal movies" via USENET ? Of course you did. A binary server, a block account, a source of headers, automatic download tools, and so on. For example, one person admitted to automatically downloading around 1TB of stuff that way... in a single month. Basically, his broadband connection pulled posts at max_rate for the entire month, and those were all movies. You don't have to torrent them. He probably doesn't even know what movies he got. Paul |

Yes, I *DO* know that. :-) Torrenting is used to reduce the cost of distributing Linux to end users. I cost me NOTHING to download Linux Mint WITHOUT using Torrents. There is no "automatic guarantee" that a torrent user is a street criminal... Much as you'd like to think so. It's good to hear that you recognise that "street criminals" *DO* use Torrents. I do NOT use Torrents. I read he https://www.schneier.com/blog/archiv...r_crime_1.html ******* Did you know you could "steal movies" via USENET ? No, I did NOT know that - but nothing surprises me nowadays. Of course you did. AS I've just said, I did NOT know - nor do I care.I do not "steal movies" - I either watch them on normal TV, in a movie theatre or via a DVD which I've either paid for directly or borrowed and paid for from my local library. More recently we have subscribed to Netfix and done a little 'binge' watching of past series like Breaking Bad, The Bridge and Luther! He's been told that multiple times. https://tekrider.net/pages/david-brooks-stalker.php Now comes the part where he asks you to "look into a torrent" that gives him a "hinky". Sorry, but I have to put an OT up. The OP was asking about torrent clients. []'s -- Don't be evil - Google 2004 We have a new policy - Google 2012 |

I use an old version 2.0.4 or 2.2.1 You can get them from FileHippo. To make it portable, just extract it to a folder and place an empty file called "settings.dat" in the folder BEFORE running it the first time. It will keep all the settings there, instead of writing to registry. []'s -- Don't be evil - Google 2004 We have a new policy - Google 2012 |
