Default network sp1 sp2

I have two computers on network using xp home. Everything worked fine and
then I had a crash. I had to reload xp and now I can share files on network
but can't connect to Internet on the fresh install. Is it possible that the
new install will not work with sp2. I need to connect to the Internet to get
updates so I'm kind of stuck here. I have computers networked using adapters
with crossover cable. I have dsl modem through usb, no rotter. On the new
install "will call it Rick" the ip is set to obtain automatically. When I go
to repair ip it will not repair. Any help on this would be great. Thanks in
advance.

Sorry made a mistake in last post. The new install does not have sp1. It's a
disk I've had for about 4 years, its version 2002. Thanks
