Default Auto Update not working in Security Center

Auto Update will not turn on in my security center. Even if I go thru and
click on auto update thru the control panel it still won't recognize that
it's on. When I go thru componets menu it shows that it's disabled. I set it
to automatic and hit start and I get an error message. Here's the error
message I get.

Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or
because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

I'm at my wits end and can't figure out how to fix this and Microsoft
Support is vague on their help. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the links. I found a link to Microsoft's onecare and ran the
anti-virus program and it took care of the problem. Here's the direct link
in case anyone else has the same problem.
