Default Windows Noise and Volume Control

Two problems

1) how do I find and replace the windows startup / shutdown noise so
that I do not wake up my household every time I start the laptop in the
A.M.?

2) how do I put a main volume control on the desktop so at any time I
can adjust the volume? No popup from the taskbar please!
e.g. have a slider AND have startup only volume setting and maybe other?

TIA

Windows' own mixer applet doesn't have tone controls. If your sound
card drivers include its own mixer applet, it might have tone controls.
Also, some media player programs have tone controls. In other words,
it's not a standard OS feature and it's up to individual programs to
supply it or not as they see fit.

Pharmaceutical companies claim their drug prices are
so high because they have to recover the costs of developing
those drugs. Two questions:

1. Why is the U.S. paying the entire cost of development while
prices for the same drugs in other nations are much lower?

2. Manufacturers of generic drugs did not have those
development costs. Why are they charging so much for generics?

We used to be able to do this from the SOUND control panel applet, but
for some reason that escapes me completely, Microsoft decided you cannot
do this anymore. I use Winareo's Tweaker tool to change the sound. You
can search on Google how to do this manually as well, by using a
resource editor to edit imageres.dll...

No idea, I dont find the System Tray pop-up to be very hard to use...

For $24, I think it is, you can get KeyRemapper and for free you can
get AutoHotkey, which does as much or more, though one of the things I
want I haven't figure out yet, and KeyRemapper did it easily (but only
for 30 days)

They let you remap your keys, and since I never use the / or * keys on
the numeric keyboard, I assigned them to Volume Down and Up.

I only use Pause in a command box, so I assigned it to Mute.

These are the only multimedia keys I would be using right now, so I
don't need a special multimedia keyboard. (Oh yeah, that would be
another solution for you. You don't actually have to SEE a slider, do
you?)

What I haven't been able to do with AutoHotkey is make exceptions,
make Pause act as Mute *except* when CMD is running, disable Insert
*only* when Agent6 is running.

Can anyone help me with that?

free Nirsoft Volumouse works if you cannot replace a volume button.

Control panel Sound Sounds tab uncheck Play Windows Startup sound.

VolumeČ is an advanced Windows volume control, a complete replacement
for the standard Volume Control. This application lets you easily change
the sound volume just by rotating the mouse wheel or by using keyboard
hot keys or just mouse move on screen border.

Also, streaming applications RealPlayer, VideoLAN, and Winamp have

The easiest way to solve both is to use "Customize" on your
System-Tray. To do this click on the Arrow icon located at the bottom
right corner of your Window. Then look for something like this:

Customize-Icons http://s12.postimg.org/ghpgkiokt/2015_11_22_0142.png

When you click on the Customize text shown in the above picture, you
will get another window that looks like this:

Second-Window http://s7.postimg.org/9j964p1p7/2015_11_22_0145.png

From this you can customize your icons in the system tray.

You then need to Mute your sound system by clicking on the
Volume/Speaker icon in your system tray.

This makes ensures that no sound is emitted from the speakers. You can
control the sound system as and when you want by clicking on this icon
or just plug in your headphones 24/7 so that the sound is only audible
when the headset is worn, not otherwise.

It's amazing how powerful the word "advanced" is with me. Even
though I have hot keys for volume control and this couldn't be that
much better, that word made me want it. And maybe the high-tech
superscript 2, and the word complete.

Windows' own mixer applet doesn't have tone controls. If your sound

Graphic equalizers are implemented in the driver, by
doing DSP using the system CPU. Look for a custom
panel with the equalizer sliders. This is a feature
of more modern systems, since "DSP can be for free".
It only "wastes a couple hundred megahertz" of your CPU.

http://g18.picoodle.com/ltd/img18/3/...em_6c60367.png

That's ten times better than tone controls,
because it has ten sliders for you to play with :-)

And that's for the cheapest of sound solutions, the
ones that only have analog to digital and digital to
analog converters inside. The item in the picture,
is the RealTek control panel.

Some add-in sound cards, have powerful DSPs. As one poster
here called such effects, it makes "digital mutilation" of sound
possible. To the point that humans find the total effect
unpleasant ("it ruined my music").

Even some chipsets have been equipped for this. The
Nforce2 motherboards with MCP-T Southbridge, the Southbridge
had *five* DSP processors inside it. If you needed a graphical
equalizer there, the Southbridge could do the math and support
the sliders. At the time, the system CPUs weren't all that strong.

But for many other sound cards (like my CMI8738 based ones),
no DSP in hardware, no DSP in driver, no bass or treble sliders,
no nothing. But the card cost $10. I used the graphic equalizer
on the stereo to fix the output of this :-) My stereo had
an excellent mixer on it, and all the toys in the computer
room plugged into it. Like all things electronic though, eventually
it passed away (no smoke or anything).

I enjoy your cynicism (-:!

FWIW, the above is not the latest version: see
https://irzyxa.wordpress.com/ for that. (Though use the above link to
actually read about it, unless you read Russian. Or
https://irzyxa.wordpress.com/about/ [there _is_ English there, just
