Default Lenovo T500 Keyboard Dead

Still troubleshooting this problem.

Lenovo T500
Other than keyboard it works fine.

On power up 9 out of 10 times all is good.

When the keyboard is dead it has these variations.

Power up
check disk accepts keystroke to cancel SD card check
password input accepts keystrokes and starts log on.
At desktop keypad is dead.

or Power up
check disk accepts keystroke to cancel SD card check
password input does NOT accepts keystrokes.

ReBoot
SD is not mentioned so no key input required.
all is good.

ReBoot
Sometimes it takes two boots to get it working.

During the life of this problem I have:
replaced the HDD with a SDD
change the mouse from a USB to bluetooth mouse.

These changes had no impact on the situation in any way.
