Default video player that will let me slow down the action?

I"m using VLC for a video player but I have a set of video instructions
for computer usage that go so fast I can't understand them (partly
because half of them are in Chinese.)

Is there a video player that will let me slow down the action?

Oy... Sure enough. Thanks. I can't keep track of all this stuff. I
can't even read it all the first time. I wonder if it's my age or if I
never could.

I customized the VLC toolbar to add the slow down and speed up buttons.
Each button press further slows down or speeds up the playback. Having
the buttons on the toolbar means not having to drill through menus.

Your expectations for software, are based on context
and experience. The controls on media players, are
meant to mimic a VCR. Or mimic that cassette recorder
you had when you were younger.

It's because you think to yourself "VLC is like my VCR",
that you will be missing out on features. I consider
such an oversight to be "normal", because the graphical
interface doesn't really hint at the feature set
all that well. You have to "read the manual" to
get some idea, or visit a website that has laid
the ideas out for you.

It wasn't that many years ago, that the developers
of VLC would have "whined" about doing anything
more than playback and record. But you'll notice
they've added a lot of stuff since then.

And some of it has rough edges. You can try to
use it, and get no response. When in fact,
the feature is completely broken. I can't get
the VLC "play what is coming from my TV Tuner"
to work in Windows. But it works in Linux.
And they're in no rush to fix that.

The playback speedup function is pitch-corrected.
I hope you're impressed by that. There's no
"chipmunks".

Yes, that's a pain because each time I click Slower, the menu
disappears. I can't just keep clicking. We'll see if I have to do
this much more.

BTW, Andy, you posted at 7AM and I was smart/lucky enough to look before
I resumed working on this.

The video has no sound** and more than half of the text is in Japanese,
so when they right click on an icon, it's very hard to tell what they've
chosen. Often there are Latin letters in parens (like (O) or (P) but
once it right clicked on This PC and chose G! G? It looked like
Device Manager, but it's missing entries I have and has entries mine
doesn't have (Some of text was in English). Plus it has icons in the
task bar I don't have. I'll let you all know how it goes.

**If it did have sound it would be in Japanese.

Nonetheless, it was there when I needed it. I finished the video.

And the software is installed. And "registered" for the first time,
though as in the other thread, I still don't have drivers. I'll work on
that in a little while.
