Cannot "defer feature updates"
I have a system that refuses the Creators update. I've been around the
block with MS support--tier 3--to no avail. Sooner or later, I'll wipe everything clean and see if I can install it, but in the meantime I'm just applying security updates - which works fine, btw. The trouble is... every time I sit down to use the computer it will appear to freeze up after a while and then get unstuck after a minute or two. The System Log shows that Windows is trying to download and install 1709 again. And again. And again...so, I checked the Defer Feature Updates box but Windows seems to ignore that. What's the matter? |

What's the matter? Your ability to understand simple instructions!! You have been told time and again that if you want to stop all updates then the only way to do it is by disabling the Windows Update from the Services App. You seem to have problems following this so I suggest contact some geek guy in India who can fix it for you for $30.00 I can fix this for you for $60.00 because I live and work in London so my needs are higher than people living in Banglore. After you have disabled the Windows update, you need to download Delta update pack every month and install it manually by first: ** Going offline ** Enabling the Windows Update ** Install the update ** Boot the machine couple of times (still offline) ** Go back to the services App and disable Windows Update follow the above algorithm every month!!!!!!!. -- With over 600 million devices now running Windows 10, customer satisfaction is higher than any previous version of windows. |

Pretty sure you can use Policy Editor to fix that. If 1709 does not install there is very probably a hardware incompatibility of some sort https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...tibility/1709/ |

Sigh Download the 16299 DVD, and with your computer booted and running 15063, execute "Setup.exe" on the DVD. It will ask whether you want to preserve programs and user data. That's the flavor of upgrade you want. Do a backup of C: and System Reserved, before you begin that exercise... A couple days ago, Microsoft said it was opening the flood gates on upgrading remaining users of 15063 to 16299. That's why you're receiving it now. Anyone who was previously blocked, should be getting it. ******* You could clean out C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, as right now it has 3-8GB of stuff. While the Insider Edition of Win10 is clever enough to clean out the SoftwareDistribution after the first failure, older versions may not be doing that. In Control Panels : Troubleshooter, there should be a troubleshooter for Windows Update. And it will clean out that folder for you. ******* I have used the procedure in my first paragraph above for *every* version of Windows 10. Every stinkin one. I don't let the OS dribble these things in - I blast them in. And I blast them in the day they are available. Why ? Primarily because I don't care what happens. But, also for the ability to test how broken it is. In the case of the Insider, on a couple occasions it took me about *eight hours* to get the OS upgrade installed. The Insider Edition has had some pretty miserable experiences that you'll never see in the Release stream. "Grab the bull by the horns and do it." Playing pat-a-cake isn't going to work. And backup! backup! backup! Paul |
