Default system slowdown

Hello,

My GF has a Dell 1.7 Ghz machine with WinXP HE and 128 Meg of
RAM. I have a 1.0 Ghz machine with WinXP HE and 378 Meg of RAM.

Her machine feels quite fast when first booted up but slows down
a lot after a day or maybe less. She has NAV and it doesn't show
anything. I've also looked for spyware and don't see anything.

I can't remember exact numbers, but she has 10's of Gigs of free
disk space.

When it slows down the HDD thrashes furiously.

My box will run for weeks at a time and seems fine and I think
that I use it harder. Any idea what's wrong? I'm thinking that
it's related to the swapfile, not enough RAM?
