Default NFS Cosole "Tray icon initialization Failed"

Icons and menu bar do not appear when I start up. Going through task manager
I can get to Explorer and the icons appear but only for 4-5 seconds and then
they disappear. This process continues and it is very frustrating as you
loose your place when typing, and other wierd things happen when using the
computer. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
