Disk Defragmenter Cannot Run
I usually run Disk Defragment every few weeks. However, now when I go to run
it, it keeps on telling me that chkdsk is scheduled to run on this volume. However, I go to run chkdsk but then I go back to disk defragmenter and it still gives me this error. |

Disk Defragmenter Cannot Run
Yes, I have done all of that. Check disk doesnt run though. So I have to go
run it by going into CMD. Then it runs upon reboot. However, I still go back to Disk Defragmenter and it gives me the same error Matt "Gerry" wrote: Matt Did you restart you're computer to allow chkdsk to run. -- Hope this helps. Disk Defragmenter Cannot Run
Matt
Try Start, Run, type "cmd" without quotes and click on OK. Type chkdsk c: /f. On completion type exit and hit ENTER. Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Also select Start, All Programs, accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp, More Options, System Restore and remove all but the latest System Restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter. -- Hope this helps. Disk Defragmenter Cannot Run
Gerry,
I do that but it says that the drive is NTFS and the drive is locked and that it will run upon restart. However, the computer restarts but nothing happens, it just loads windows normally. I did go to safemode with command prompt and try it that way but I had no luck. Also, I did do both DiskCleanup steps and that work completely, however i still get the disk defragmenter error Matt "Gerry" wrote: Matt Try Start, Run, type "cmd" without quotes and click on OK. Disk Defragmenter Cannot Run
Matt
I cannot find an obvious solution to your immediate problem. How much free disk space does your C drive have? Is your C drive a cloned copy from Acronis or other similar software? Are you using backup software? What are your anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall arrangements? Are you using or have you used any third party utilities including registry cleaners or other offerings from PC Tools or the like? It may not be chkdsk that has locked the drive. Try HD Tune only gives information and does not fix any problems. Download and run it and see what it turns up. You want HD Tune (freeware) version 2.55 not HD Tune Pro (not Freeware) version 3.00. http://www.hdtune.com/ Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on the drive under Drive letter and then double click the two page icon ( copy to Clipboard ) and copy into a further message. Select the Health tab and then double click the two page icon ( copy to Clipboard ) and copy into a further message. Make sure you do a full surface scan with HD Tune. -- Hope this helps. Disk Defragmenter Cannot Run
Gery,
My harddrive has about 25% left on it. I have an external MyBook that I sometimes attach that keeps music, and video. No, the hard drive is not cloned or anything like that. The only backupsoftware I am using is the one that Windows XP provides. My antivirus is McAfee and so is my antispyware. The firewall I am assuming is just Windows XP. No, I have not used any third party cleaners. I will do a full surface scan and let you know the results, in the mean time here is the info you requested HD Tune: ST960822A Information Firmware version : 3.02 Serial number : 3LF12Z49 Capacity : 55.9 GB (~60.0 GB) Buffer size : 8192 KB Standard : ATA/ATAPI-6 Supported mode : UDMA Mode 5 (Ultra ATA/100) Current mode : UDMA Mode 5 (Ultra ATA/100) S.M.A.R.T : yes 48-bit Address : yes Read Look-Ahead : yes Write Cache : yes Host Protected Area : no Device Configuration Overlay : yes Automatic Acoustic Management: no Power Management : yes Advanced Power Management : yes Power-up in Standby : no Security Mode : yes Firmware Upgradable : yes Partition : 1 Drive letter : C:\ Label : Capacity : 57019 MB Usage : 77.84% Type : NTFS Bootable : Yes Partition : 2 Drive letter : Label : Capacity : 203 MB Usage : 0.00% Type : unknown (88h) Bootable : No HD Tune: ST960822A Health ID Current Worst ThresholdData Status (01) Raw Read Error Rate 55 51 34 93565933 Ok (03) Spin Up Time 95 94 0 0 Ok (04) Start/Stop Count 98 98 20 2149 Ok (05) Reallocated Sector Count 100 100 36 0 Ok (07) Seek Error Rate 82 60 30 173825082 Ok (09) Power On Hours Count 88 88 0 10650 Ok (0A) Spin Retry Count 100 100 34 0 Ok (0C) Power Cycle Count 99 99 20 1870 Ok (C0) Power Off Retract Count 100 100 0 1870 Ok (C1) Load Cycle Count 1 1 0 275569 Ok (C2) Temperature 31 47 0 31 Ok (C3) Hardware ECC Recovered 55 51 0 93565933 Ok (C5) Current Pending Sector 100 100 0 0 Ok (C6) Offline Uncorrectable 100 100 0 0 Ok (C7) Ultra DMA CRC Error Count 200 200 0 0 Ok (C8) Write Error Rate 100 253 0 0 Ok (CA) TA Counter Increased 100 253 0 0 Ok Power On Time : 10650 Health Status : Ok |
