Default Installing programs

I have windows XP Professional. My computer has 4 user
accounts on it. When installing new programs such as
Microsoft Money, QuickBooks Pro 2003, etc., do I install
them while logged on as administrator, or while logged on
to the user account that will actually use and run them.
Please e-mail a reply if possible as I'm still learning
how to find things on these message bases.

Thanks,

Default Installing programs

Hi,

Sorry, I don't generally do e-mail support....

The answer is: It depends.

Not a great answer huh? Some programs, especially older software, will need
to be installed under each user that is going to use it. Other programs that
are "user aware" can be installed from the admin account for all users.

To install on a limited user account, right-click the setup file and use
"run as" to enter an admin username and password. This article may also
help:

Some Programs Do Not Work If You Log On from Limited Account [Q307091]

How do you tell which you need to do? You try installing from the admin
account, then see if you encounter an error when trying to run it from a
user account.
