Default my documents from 98 to XP

Installed hard drive from previous compter in new
computer. Old one was win98, new one is xp. Can't find
old my documents folder on old drive. All other folders
are there and ok. Old computer crashed (would not load
windows, could read directory in dos, iosubsys.error),
put old drive in new computer as slave to get data.
Scandisk says drive ok. Have done this previously with 2
win98 machines, but this time no my documents folder on
old drive when using XP. Is my documents treated
differently than any other folder? Have done search for
individual files and generic serch for xls extensions.
None that were in the old my documents are found. Am I
SOL?
