New applications do install but won't run
Hi all,
Recently I moved from W7 pro 64b to W10 pro 64b. A fresh install on a newly formatted SSD. It runs OK but as from yesterday there is something wrong. I am able to install a program without a problem, but after that it won't run. The application starts, but closes with the message: "xxx has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." This happened for three new programs I wanted to have. All other programs which were installed run OK. Only the new ones don't. What can be wrong? Thanks in advance. Kind regards, Fokke Nauta |

Personally, I would assume that the Windows install was bad and start over, but that's just me. -- - Is there to be a trial? May I defend myself? If they are new-to-you but otherwise old, they may not play nice with Win7 and later. Check the compatibility specs. Good luck, They are Sonar Professional, MuseScore 2 and Sibelius First, all compatible with W10. I used tu run Sonar on my old W7 pc, the other two are new to me. Fokke |

Kind regards, Fokke Nauta Right-click the program or shortcut and select "Troubleshoot Compatibility". Ben That's an excellent thing to try. The compatibility troubleshooter attempts go get it right. Sometimes, you can make it work by manually setting the compatibility mode for the OS version that your program originally supported. I've had programs install in compatibility mode, but misbehave in some manner or other. If the failure has no decipherable error message, the program may not be at fault. The underlying problem may be some incompatible function of a hardware driver. One question is, "what is the definition of new?" Is this a "new" win10-compatible program"? Or a "different" "old" program you're trying to install on for the first time on win10? If it's the latter, now would be a good time to look for an upgraded version or an alternative win10-compatible program. If that's not possible, do some googling for a solution for that particular program. I've found chasing compatibility issues to be frustrating if someone hasn't already figgered it out. |

So - that's not the point. Somehow Windows stops running these programs, all with the same message. |
