Default Trouble logging on to secure sites (Hotmail for instance)

Something has gone wrong with settings- I really don't know why. I can't go
into hotmail and any other secure site- my bank for instance. Can't think
why it's suddenly happened- I had an update from McAfee which I had a bit of
trouble loading but that may be nothing to do with it. I'm sure it's
something really simple but I've been trying to sort it out for weeks.
I also had trouble with Outlook Express but after numerous calls to my ISP I
got that sorted --- it's not the same as it was though- I have cable
broadband but it keeps wanting to dial for some reason. It's a mess- if
anybody can help I'd be really grateful

In Internet Explorer -
1. Tools Internet Options Advanced
2. Scroll down to the Security Settings.
3. Make sure that the two boxes are checked that say
"Enable SSL 2" or "Enable SSL 3".
Try your secure sites.

Another thing you can try is:
Go to start/run
Type in: regsvr32 softpub.dll
Press Enter or click OK

After you upgrade to Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) in

work correctly. Frequently, this behavior is caused by security changes in Windows XP
SP2.
