Default Recovering Lost Offline files

A contractor who has joined our company, had been using offline folders on
his personal laptop to synchronise with a server at his last business. On
leaving he continued using the drive to store personal files.

By changing the domain of that account to our business domain, the password
for that user account would not work.

Copying the data from that account to a new user account returned all the
settings but the offline drive is no longer visible, and the user cannot
access his personal files that he had been using.

How can we restore the files?

Please help.

Thanks,

Julian
