Why can't you just download it from MS? https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...nload/windows7 I downloaded it some time ago. At that time, you didn't need a key to download, but you're gonna need a key to use it anyway, so you must have one. One could, as long as they have a retail product key, but if they need English or one of the other many languages (missing for quite sometime) then they can't download 7 from that Microsoft site. Also, doesn't MS's site lock out OEM keys? I seem to remember my Dell key wasn't accepted once instead telling me to go to Dell instead. They make it easier to just download a torrent instead!!! See above, OEM keys are not retail keys. -- ....winston msft mvp windows experience |

I can't help it pc no longer has any restore partition on it seeing as it 2nd hand. It'd cost MS next to nothing to just allow the download as you still need a key. |

| questionable source. I can't help it pc no longer has any restore | partition on it seeing as it 2nd hand. It'd cost MS next to nothing to | just allow the download as you still need a key. That's a good example of what happens when people put up with abuse. Most people thought it was reasonable when MS instituted Product Activation. MS has made a bundle since then, selling new licenses to people who already bought one. (And I've made a hobby out of fixing the computers that people throw away after they get malware.) MS keeps redefining the product in exploitive ways and people just accept it. It's got to a point now where a Pro Windows disk costs nearly as much as a computer. And even then one is at the mercy of Microsoft for Product Activation. The same is true of e-books. The prices are ridiculous considering that one doesn't actually have a copy, even in digital format, and can't obtain a real copy of the book. It's a rental fee, only allowing one to read the book from an online feed, on specific, chintzy screen devices, for as long as the rental agency doesn't shut off access. (As happened at one point, ironically, with George Orwell titles. Apparently his heirs didn't think they were making enough money.) There is a big difference there, though: People can skip the ebook fad. For most it's not so easy to avoid Windows. Yesterday I threw away a backup CD for a Win95 install. I'd written the Product ID on it. There was no key at that time. And as most here will remember, a fully functional Windows CD came with a computer purchase for Win9x. |

Not 100% accurate, Mayayana. :-) Currently reading an epub on my tablet, but it's a file I downloaded. No rental fee, no online fee, no internet connection needed to read, etc. I just downloaded it to my Mac as a double check, no problem downloading. Opens fine in Calibre. But, relating to your George Orwell comment, I think it depends on the copyright status. The book I'm reading is out of copyright, AFAIK. snip -- Ken Mac OS X 10.8.5 Firefox 44.0 Thunderbird 38.0.1 "My brain is like lightning, a quick flash and it's gone!" |

There are lots of ebooks available for free that are out of copyright. On the other hand, most people could also get most of them at their local library for free. |

Some of us grabbed all of the ISO files from digitalriver when we still had the chance. I did, and I think Paul did, as well, and probably others of us. What I wanted to say is that it doesn't much matter where you get the ISO now, whether it's a torrent or other avenue, because the checksums are widely available. No matter how dodgy the source, you can be fairly sure it hasn't been tampered with. Within reason, I suppose. -- Char Jackson |

Yep, I am getting the error with English with a legit retail key. Why even have this web site up if it gives errors?
