Default "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - January 2017(KB890830)" fails in my 64-bit W7 HPE SP1 OS.

Hello.

Is anyone getting errors for "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool
x64 - January 2017 (KB890830)" in 64-bit W7 HPE SP1? I did get the
KB3212646 without any issues. I also never had problems with MRT updates.

Thank you in advance.

I never use it or download its updates. I have three other
non-Microsoft anti-malware applications. Given the number of
Microsoft's security updates to Windows, Office, .NET, etc -- usually
several each month -- I just do not trust the Windows Malicious Software
Removal Tool.

national importance, I want to see his face as he is talking.
At the least, I want to hear his voice. Presidents should
not be making public statements that are of no importance.

It's an on-demand scanner, and most likely signature based.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ons-of-windows

Apparently, you can stop it from being offered.

https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thre...l-tool.387995/

reg add "HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\MRT" /v DontOfferThroughWUAU /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f

And I don't really pay attention to it all that much
one way or another.

It's never detected anything, so I haven't even seen the
quarantine response of the thing. I don't know if it detects EICAR,
so you can insert an EICAR and test it. While I see reports
that it "quarantined stuff", so far none of the descriptions
have been credible. There is at least one "fake" MSRT
out there, so when you see a report, you have to keep
that possibility in mind.

This is my report right now. This is the result of
the quick scan.

This is a picture of a full scan running. I started
MRT from the command line, and asked it to scan. It's
not throwing errors. It was installed via (January)
Windows Update.

I never had problems until today. Weird. WU doesn't show the update
anymore, but I manually ran mrt.exe and it was dated January 2017! What
the frak? Oh well. Weird.

MRT.exe's full scan seems to work overnight when I tried it.

Just received my update notification and hid the Intel optional offer
immediately. the rest of the downloads, installations and MSRT scan
performed without any problems.
