MRT.exe's full scan progress shows infections, but its results shownone.
Why does during full scans, there are infections. After it is done
scanning for a few hours, it shows no infections. I am confused! It does not scan for malware, it *REMOVES* some malware, the ones Microsoft dislikes. If there are still infections after MRT has run, you are in deep trouble. Thank you in advance. It's cool, Mand. |

Although the file name is mrt.exe, the product name is [Microsoft Windows] Malicious Software Removal Tool. When abbreviated, it is called MSRT (not MSMSRT). Filenames often do not match product names. For example, winword.exe is not for Windows Word but just Word. msimn.exe was Microsoft's Outlook Express (which was first called Microsoft Internet Mail and News). https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...l-details.aspx So it said it found some potential malware. It's purpose is to remove malware. When it got done and said there were no infections, well, that's because it removed them. You started with some, it did its job, and now you don't have them. If it reported the same pests at the end that it reported during its scan then it would've removed nothing. When you saw a non-zero hit count during the scan and then zero at the end, did you look at "View detailed results of scan" to see what it removed? With a non-zero hit list during the scan, I would expect the log to show what got removed if the list was zero after the scan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-N3znzDDJzA However, I wouldn't rely on MRT to get you clean. It may have removed a couple ticks but there could still be some more ticks and lice that it did not detect or doesn't even look for. It was NEVER intended to be a robust anti-virus solution. That you had some rather very obvious and usually old malware means you now need to use some more thorough to scan your computer for pests. |

NT, Ant says... Why does during full scans, there are infections. After it is done scanning for a few hours, it shows no infections. I am confused! Thank you in advance. Sounds normal to me. It's done it's job and removed infections. I'd follow that up with two five minute tools from: https://www.malwarebytes.com/products/#for-technicians Download and run AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal Tool. -- Duncan. |
