yep, and if a chromebook is damaged, simply replace it, the kid logs in

it doesn't matter that much.

Cheap enough if the school has money... which is sadly not a given.

That's where Canadian schools have an advantage over the USA, since the
Provinces fund all their schools at the same level, with specified
funding for small rural schools, aging buildings, and such, to level the
playing field. OTOH, parent groups can and do add as much cash as they
can fundraise, which gives schools in wealthier zones an advantage.

In general Canada is better about investing in the future and focusing
on the population as a whole and not just redistributing money to the
very rich as happens in the US.

Cheap enough if the school has money... which is sadly not a given.

that is very true.

Schools in my district have no text books. It is insane.

It isn't insane.
Do you live in a poor area?
Money doesn't grow on trees.
Someone has to earn it to pay the taxes that support the school.

You demonstrate a key difference between liberals and conservatives.
Liberals tend to believe that we, as a society, are better off with an
educated population, one that can better compete with other countries
and which can better understand what is happening in the world so they
can make wise voting decisions.

So you participating in a fund raiser is out of the question?
What I said is somebody has to _pay_ for it.
I don't care if they are liberal or conservative.

I like the last sentence, which is a long, drawn out way of saying
indoctrination.

Conservatives fear an educated population and do not understand the
value of investing in the future. The more educated people are the less
likely they are to buy into the divisive nature of conservative politics.

You are ****in locked in on this conservative vs liberal nonsense.

Interesting movement of goal posts as you cry about people being
educated and we, as a society, investing in the future.

Interesting way of saying you value education, you just don't want to
help pay for it

Given that is not at all what I said your assessment is incorrect.

"Conservatives fear an educated population"

Geez, what a moron.

Democrats are the ones freely handing out welfare to the filthiest
people in the world in the hope that they won't get an education.

Your system is full of waste and special interest groups.
That's why they don't have books.
It isn't lack of funding.
The schools spending is on par with revenues from Hershey.

support to compensate for low local taxes.

We have little funding for schools. From ANY source. Period. This is a
state-wide problem... which is not surprising given how it is a "red"
state. We have been listed as the number 50 state for being a teacher.

Too bad. I'm sure people use fundraisers etc to meliorate the bad
effects of under funding, and I wish them all possible success.

They fund vacant buildings, spend $24,000,000 on desegregation, yet have no
desegregation plan, got a teacher raise, went on strike for another raise,
though didn't strike over lack of books.

It's all about the kids though.

Cue bull****.

not really. there are still a lot of options.

"Still a lot" is consistent with "not as many as there used to be",
which is my point.

it has not dropped anywhere close to what would be considered niche.

Ah, so you think numbers define "niche". I don't, as I made perfectly
clear.

then you'd be wrong.

So justify the numbers aspect, if you please.

'small', which is very clearly *not* applicable to laptops or desktops.

http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/market-niche.html
A small but profitable segment of a market suitable for focused
attention by a marketer. Market niches do not exist by themselves,
but are created by identifying needs or wants that are not being
addressed by competitors, and by offering products that satisfy them.
See also market segmentation.

https://www.macmillandictionary.com/us/dictionary/american/niche_2
of interest or appeal only to a small number of people

https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/niche
Denoting or relating to products, services, or interests that appeal
to a small, specialized section of the population.

Or else stop trying to disprove a point I didn't make.

stop backpedaling.

On the contrary, it's of the essence of my definition, which is why I
gave it as an example.

then your definition is flawed.

It should be obvious that "mainstream" and "niche" are contrasting
terms. A mainstream product may well be used by professionals for some
work-related task. Mainstream = used by most people. Which could include
professionals who etc. A niche product is one not used by most people,
but used by (for example) professionals who etc.

yep, which means laptops and desktops are *not* niche, and that's using
*your* definition.

Sheesh, why do I have to explain such obvious parsings?

maybe because you're very confused and keep contradicting yourself.

Cheap enough if the school has money... which is sadly not a given.

that is very true.

Schools in my district have no text books. It is insane.

You have local vote on school taxes, right? And minimal if any State
support to compensate for low local taxes.

I doubt you will come right out and say you support issues from the
sidelines.

What you doubt is not relevant -- the fact is you made up a view and
attributed it to me. You, in short, lied.

Buy those kids some books, you cheap *******s.

You assume I have not bought the school any books (which is a false
assumption).

If they have, according to you, no text books, then you didn't.
You lied.

This implies you have no experience with books and do not know there are
kinds other than text books.

Sad to hear.

Out of $7.360,000,000 you could have found some book money.
I notice they found money for salary increases.

Took a public vote and they took the money from mental health services.
It was... to perhaps use a poor term... insane.

Your system is full of waste and special interest groups.
That's why they don't have books.
It isn't lack of funding.
The schools spending is on par with revenues from Hershey.

And you have no clue what you are talking about... but you clearly want
attention.
