Any one else find this news group? Despite posting it a few time it
seems no one else has found it. Do they not know they need to update
their news group list on occasion?

Yes, I found this newsgroup a few days ago. I see only one message besides
your latest (dated today, 10/17/09). That other one was dated 9/19/09 and
was a Reply to one in July. My Sync setting in WLM is "All messages".

Looks like it's just you and me, kid. :^{

Well then, there's three of us who have found it. At least the 'kooks'
haven't found it yet (alias, and like kind) which may be a blessing in
disguise. I'll keep monitoring as I guess you will also.

I've been watching it for a week or more, not much traffic. I run a
small IT company with about 80 clients, several thousand workstations
and about 100 servers to support.

We've rolled out Win 7 in our development center, not to any clients,
and it seems to be much more stable than Vista, so far. It also seems to
use less memory than vista.

One thing I'm glad about is that XP video drivers work if there are no
Vista/Win7 drivers.

So far, about 18 machines, even some old 32 bit laptops, work fine and
better on Win 7 than vista.

Yup, that's pretty much been my experience as well. Just for the hell of
it I dug out an old computer with an Asus A7V motherboard, 512K pc133
memory, two 20 Gig hard drives and a 1.3G AMD cpu. I intended to install
the '7 Pro x86 version. To my surprise, it not only installed, but runs
reasonably well with the exception of videos. It has a WEI score of 1
mainly due to an old ATI AGP graphics card.

I've done a few 'real' installs of Ultimate, Pro and Home Premium, all
x64, and both 'clean' installs and upgrades on laptops as well as
desktops, with no problems except for two drivers which I was able to
resolve within minutes.

So far, Win7 has impressed me when compared to the roll out of Vista.

I've been using 64-bit since the beta and I love it. I'm just a user, not a
guru, but hubbs is an MS partner. I like to TRY and learn without bugging
him, but at least he's free tech help if needed! The one thing I have
learned so far is that if you want your icons to stay where you put them,
but they move around with every restart, you need to use fences. I am using
a freeware called Stardock Fences and am quite happy with it. It seems Win7
no longer has the "lock desktop" feature it used to have in XP.

Like I said before, I won't have much to offer, but learning from others is
a good thing!

I've said for over a year, Vista was the same reason as millennium
Edition, to get people to buy Faster/More powerful PC's with more memory
and newer hardware - Vista did that for Windows 7 the same way that
millennium Edition did for Windows XP.

I'm just glad that my $3900 laptop, an older Hyper Threaded P4/3.2ghz
system with 2GB ram, not a mobile P4, works with it, the catch under
vista was that the vendor doesn't provide any Vista drivers, but SP1
fixed that and Win 7 lets me use the XP driver (since the laptop card
only has 64MB RAM, no shared).

I did have to download the newest Symantec End-Point Protection 11.5 in
order to Win 7 to "see" it and not complain it wasn't updated.

They will if you respond to them and give them an "audience" which is what
they are after, attention. If you ignore them, if if unable to stand it, use
a filter, then you don't have to wade through crap to find good info.
I saved this group since I bought a new Dell and will get the upgrade to
W7 when it comes out. I expect that when new PC's start coming out with W7
there will be a lot of questions and answers, and yes a lot of trolls
looking for attention.

When I got this Vista machine, it was a big jump (for me) from XP. I am a
VERY much amateur PC user. Never bothered to learn a lot. The Vista group
was a lot of help, but there was TONS of crap, Alias being just one. Took a
while to filter out most of them so I could find answers to real questions.
Often the problem was people who could give good help just could not resist
trying to deal with the morons, as if they were actually going to reason
with them. People like that just want attention, not answers. No doubt as
soon as W-7 is the standard this group will attract them like flies, but
hopefully there will be good help from the people who actually know what
they are talking about and have been playing with W-7 since it was put out
for testing. I have no doubt I will need some when I switch the one laptop
to it. If it is as good as I have been hearing may have to buy an upgrade
for this one too.

I've just found this group, I usually post in the microsoft vista general group
and will be lurking/posting here now as well. :-)

Windows 3.1 installed.

Maybe April 1992? ;^}

I got the original TRS-80 in December 1977. MS-DOS didn't appear until
1981, as PC-DOS on the first IBM PC, and Windows 1.0 in the mid-80's.

hopefully there will be good help from the people who actually know what
they are talking about and have been playing with W-7 since it was put out
for testing.

I hope I can help some. I've been using Win7 since the "pre-beta" in
October 2008, the beta in January, the RC (no relation g ) in May and RTM
in early August. But I'm just an experienced user, not a techie of any
kind.

My first one was in 2000 when I went back to school for some CAD CAM
training. I had avoided computers till then. Felt stupid in school with a
bunch of people half my age who knew the ins and outs, so I went out and
bought one. It was a Win. Millennium. I had a Win. 98 for Dummies book and
for a while there I was close to taking the damn thing outside and shooting
it. G
I later found out the OS really sucked so it was not just me. When XP hit
I had little trouble with it, but only learned just what I needed and have
never bothered with a lot. Vista was a learning curve again, but someone
here recommended a good book, and with that and some help here it was not
near as bad as that first one.
As for Usenet I have been using the same address for many years now. The
Yahoo mail has improved by light years in the last few years. Rarely get any
spam even with a legit address.
I only use this address for Usenet though so it's no big deal if some spam
makes it past the filter.
I looked at the MS forum, and like all of them I just don't like them. If
it was that or nothing, I would use it, but only if there was just no
choice.
