Default Disable/Remove "turn off computer" option in locked Windows XP Pro. SP3?

Hello.

I was cleaning my computers' keyboards and desk earlier, and I
accidently shut down and rebooted my locked Windows XP Pro SP3 from its
keyboard input. I assume it is because of the turn off option. Is there
a way to remove/disable it?

Thank you in advance.

That whole row of keys across the top of my "media ready" keyboard was
screwing with me so I opened it up and unplugged the little card they
were on.

Ha. I have none of those fancy button and keys. I just use a plain old
fashion PS/2 clicky (almost like a Model M) 104 keyboard.

I remember doing that, often, but it has been long since I last set up an XP
system from scratch. I can't remember how I did it, before, but looking at my
current XP setup, I find "Shutdown: Allow system to be shut down without having
to log on" in Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy - Local Policies -
Security Options. Of course on my XP system it is set to Disabled, because I
always disabled it on the systems I set up, to avoid the exact scenario you
describe. Sorry I can't remember if this is the only way to do it, or if
there was something easier I did.

I don't know about locked or how to change the shortcut/s, but
'normally' one could turn off or reboot the computer with the sequence:

ctrl-esc (brings up Start menu) U (shortcut item in Start menu opens the
Turn off computer function) then S does standby, U shuts down and R
restarts.

Yeah, but I was at the locked screen (winkey+L) so no Start Menu and
requires to login to get the desktop.

I had that kind of keyboard too. PS/2, clicky, sturdy case, wide, and
relatively heavy. But ever since the keys started to die one by one
(right-ctrl, right-alt, then left-ctrl), I had to let it go after about 17
years.

Now I have a 107-keys Windows keyboard (standard, windows, menu, power
management keys). I plucked out the power key after several accidents,
leaving only the sleep and wake keys. Later, I remapped those two keys to
F13 and F14. I tried remapping the power key, but unfortunately it's not
remappable. That key's functionality is hardcoded somewhere in one of the
system device driver.

Do you want to remap some key?

AutoHotKey is free and pretty easy to use, except as below.

Key Remapper for $24 is a little easier to use but especially easier
to use to get remapping of certain keys to only occur when certain
programs are running. I still can't get AutoHotKey to do that, even
though I know it's supposed to do it.

My "multimedia keyboard" is still attached to a broken computer, but
using either of the above programs, I assigned / and * of the
numerica keyboard to be volume down and volume up, and I assigned
pause/break to be mute. These are the 3 multimedia keys I used 98% of
the time. So now any keyboard is multimedia. There are some other
keys I never use that for future needs.

I would like to have pause/break function normally in cmd and tcc/le,
and I would like Insert to not function in Forte Agent 6, and if
anyone can explain how to do that in Autohotkey, I'd appreciate it.

What happens if you use the MS virtual on-screen
keyboard? Google for which.

I've used it when for some reason the keyboard
drivers didn't work but the mouse did.

Thanks! That's perfect! Now, it is like my Debian/Linux box with no
shutdown/reboot option. Thanks.
