Default Signing into a "Microsoft Account"

I have been trying to do this using a password, username, phone no,
"alias" etc but nothing works.

Can I cancel all the trys and start again from scratch?

When you applied for the MSA, there should have been an
email sent by the system confirming something.

Do you still have that email ?

It probably doesn't have a password in it, as that would be silly.

I'm locked out of my gmail account right now, where I received
my MSA confirmation, so I can't go look at an example of such :-/

There's a pile of rubbish here, if you have another computer handy etc.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/...t-cant-sign-in

And you can't cancel all tries, because the ****ing interfaces
to modern cloud-based services are giant state machines. Like
a person working on the bomb squad, once you trip a tamper
detection on the bomb, the bomb moves to its next state.
There is no "go backwards" or "do over". Only paths on the
state machine where you rub your belly and pat your head, return
you to one of the sane states in the machine. Like this:

cool and ------------------------------- ****ed state -----------+
groovy state Typed just | |

Even if you applied for another MSA, what good would that do ?
Do you know whether the OS accepts a second MSA ? Remember that
App Store purchases are keyed to an MSA (and a credit card presumably),
so the application of a "new" MSA means kissing all those purchases
good bye. That's why, really, there is no escape from that
state machine. It really is... the ****ed state.

I don't know whether the administrator account would help at this
time or not. If you could get in as the administrator, you could
create a new local account, apply a new MSA to it, or the like.
But I really don't know what good that would do. I don't see

email address, and that leaves them with ZERO ways to recover the locked

That's where 'plan ahead' comes into play.
My wife and I both share each others encrypted password list so if one
person gets locked out, the other can look up the passwords.

Which information *do* you have? If you have the associated e-mail
address, then have you tried to login at the Microsoft *website*?

N.B. The 'Sign in' at microsoft.com says you can use 'Email, phone or
Skype' to log in. I tried Email and Skype and both worked.

You plan, I plan, perhaps we help our friends to plan, but friends of
friends only crawl out of the woodwork when it's obvious they haven't
planned ...

Tried this. I typed my normal email but it said to try another
because that one had "been used already". I entered an old email,
then it wanted a password which I didn't have or forgotten, so they
sent another and that didn't work because they sent the code to the
new wmail I don't have any more. I went thru the whole rigmarole
again with my phone nimber and then they sent confirmation to the
obsolete email too.

I don't waste my time with "games" and I don't need their shop stuff,
but now some manufactures of chemicals want a MSoft Account sign-in
before they send out literature and SDSs ant etc. Seeming a growing
trend.

Maybe, and the only reason I need this MSA thing is because
commercial sites are asking for it as ID.

Do you really want to co-operate with those suppliers in turning MS into
a shadow identity provider?

Use a new/unused (for Microsoft) e-mail address and use Create instead
of Sign in.

If you still have an old/working e-mail address which (you think) was
used for a Microsoft Account, but do not know your username or password,
you can use the 'Forgot my username' function (Sign in - Sign-in
options) that will send a security code to the e-mail address, so you
can login and take it from there.

Only if you do not know the email address, *nor* phone number, *nor*
Skype name or these are no longer existing/working, you have a problem
logging in to your old account.

Again, if you want/need further help, please indicate clearly which of
these pieces of information you do and do not have and whether the email
address, phone number and Skype name are still existing/working. I.e.
things like "old email" doesn't mean a thing, what *matters* is if you
*know* the email address and if it still exists and is working, i.e. you
can receive/see e-mail sent to that address.
