Default McAFee wants a fee

My Toshiba Win10 laptop came with McAfee stuff.
It now says my free trial has expired and I told it I did not want to do
any fee based upgrade but it STILL nags me !

How do I get rid of this damn nag but keep the free portion ?

If not able to do that then how do I completely clean the McAfee off the
laptop ?

I'll bet that Windows uninstall does not do it completely since in
the past I have seen this same lack of complete cleaning.

One way is to do a system restore to a date prior to McAfee infestation.

This kind of thing is one reason I do my own OS installations. Infested
PCs like that can be really had to do anything with.

McAfee provides a tool to remove their security software. There are
several version depending on what OS you have. The best way to find it
is to search on "remove McAfee tool"

You apparently do not realize there is NO free part of McAfee software.
What you get when you buy McAfee is a year subscription to their virus
monitoring software.

Once you remove McAfee you are completely unprotected viruses and malware.

In the past I have found there are two types of people in the computer
world. Those that use the system as presented and learn its
idiosyncrasies, and those that fight the system every time they use it.

Those that work with the system spend their time doing what they bought
the computer for. Those that fight the system spend more time in the
fight than using the computer.

Right. See Paul's and Keith Nuttle's reply, and let me add that In my
opinion, it's best to dump McAfee entirely and get a better
anti-virus. Despite its popularity, it's one of the worst choices
available.

There is no free portion, you had a free trial, it's over. Either pay
to continue using it, or remove it and use defender, or pick some other
free AV.

It's easy, but it will take you back to a date when before you owned the
computer.

Just check out HGWells.

1) Look in Control Panels : Programs and Features

If your copy of Windows 10 has lost its control panels,
don't freak out. Try typing "control" in the run box.
You should see the old Control Panels (for a limited time
until they really remove it).

What!!?? I use the control panel all the time.

Wrong. Your first line of defense, your brain, should be working just as
well as before. Maybe better, since you don't have this mess (A/V
software) to deal with anymore.

That reminds me of something else I heard once. It's unbelievable how
much effort some people put into avoiding work (it doesn't matter if
avoiding the work takes 10 times the effort the work they're avoiding
would take).

Second, uninstall MCAfee (you'll need a 3rd party scrubber like Revo).

Reinstalling the OS might be easier (I've seen MS sites where you can
download Win 7, 8, or 10).

3rd, get at least 2 more anti-virus/malware products, and get in the
habiet of scnning with thme every week or so.

Good luck,

No. Once you remove it Windows Defender is enabled.
