Default region 2 dvd wont play on dvd player region 2 in win xp

When I upgraded to win xp from 98 se , dvd player
worked.As a stand alone install of xp , the dvd player
wont play region 2 discs.

winxp on its own cannot play dvd movies. you need to install your dvd
drive's dvd player --windvd or powerdvd or whatever comes along with the dvd
drive. this installs the codec. when you have installed the dvd player,
you can now play your dvd using windows media player.
