CTRL Click causes copy

I have a problem with windows xp, and it has done the
same thing on several different computers. For example,
if I go to my documents - my photos, and select several
different photos using 'CTRL' and left mouse click, the
computer will suddenly copy my selection within the same
folder instead of just highlighting my selection. I
therefore end up with 'copy of picture 1', 'copy of
picture 2' etc. If I try again, sometimes it will work
on 10 selections or so, and then the 11th will trigger
the copy process. It is annoying to say the least, and
as I mentioned, it has done this on many different
machines.

Be careful not to move the mouse when clicking to select when the Ctrl key
is engaged. Release the mouse button before releasing the key. If the key
is still engaged when you move the mouse, it will be interpreted as a copy
command.

You could also try adjusting the sensitivity of your mouse so that the
slightest movement during this operation is not misinterpreted.

I know the difference between the shift key function and
the control key function, as mentioned in the first
answer to my post. You have fixed my problem. With many
files to select I have obviously been very quick, and
what you described is exactly what I was doing. It will
not happen in the future now that I know what I was doing

You're welcome! This has been a common problem for many XP users so it's
probably a combination of users going too fast (I've done it too) and some
extra mouse sensitivity that appears with some mouse drivers in XP.
