does anyone know why we can change the user name on the
login screen, but we can't change the "system folder" that
are the user's files?

I created a new 'user' and called it test. now I can't
change the name of this file because XP says it is a
system file and it's name can't be changed?

Sounds bogus.

Hi,

Not bogus, that's the way it works (security reasons). If you want to change
the user folder name, create a new user with that name, then copy over
relevant files/links to the new user folder.
