Default Unread mail messages notification doesn't change

The unread email notification says I have 26 unread messages.
Is there a way that I can have this update regularly as it isn't
changing?
Can I change the email address I use or must it be a yahoo/hotmail
address?
Thanks
PS - I did look in Registry at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\UnreadMail\
but saw nothing about changing the time update. I tried changing the
email address, but it still showed 26 unread emails for the different
address.

Download and install TweakUI for XP

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../powertoys.asp

There is a fix in there for it....

Registry key - in the right hand column,
double click on 'MessageExpiryDays' and
change the value to zero(0).

Under the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\UnreadMail\
all I have is:
ab (Default) Reg_SZ Value not set

Then there is a subdirectoru under that with my email address as the
title of the folder.
Under that it shows:
ab (Default) Reg_SZ Value not set
Application Reg_SZ msimn
Message count Reg_DWord 0x0000001a(26)
TimeStamp Reg_Binary 1c 33 6b 9a ae 41 c3 01

I don't see any MessageExpiryDays entry.
ANy other ideas?

"©®",

Use the following link;

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_d...mailnotify.htm

or

To change it manually - Start/Run/Regedit:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\UnreadMail. In
the right pane modify: MessageExpiryDays Change it to 0.

Currently, there are only two applications that support this feature,
Microsoft Outlook Express and Windows Messenger.

The updating is handled by the MSN messenger addin to Windows Messenger. =
If you don't instttall this addin then the value won't change.

Note the Version of Messenger built into XP does update the value but as =
soon as messenger is updated to the latest version it stops updating (or =
reading) the message count as the updating function was moved from the =
core program to the addin.

Note that messenger itself is an addin to OE.

Thanks, David. I delete Messenger ASAP after an XP install, so didn't =
consider this in my reply.
