Start Menu - Drag and Drop Folders
It has been a long time since I modified my Start Menu and it doesn't behave
the way I remember it when dragging a folder from My Computer to it. It seems I remember that if I chose to drag a folder buried in My Computer to the Start Menu, it would appear, in the left panel, below the bold face programs that were pinned to the menu and be in 'normal' type. Now such folders appear amongst the bold face ones. Is my memory failing as I have found in many other cases. Maybe I don't understand what the 'normal' type entries are for in the Start Menu left panel. I appreciate any help anyone can give here. Thank you. P. S. I am running XP Home SP2. The last time I modified the menu could well have been prior to any SP's. |

Thank you very much, Wesley.
What lead to my question was that each time I boot and try to use the Start Menu to launch a program, I get a balloon message saying there isn't enough room to show all items. My Icons are small, my number of programs on the start menu in Customize is 20 and my desktop resolution is 1024 x 768. The number of entries appearing on the Start Menu is 15. Actually there are 13 programs and 2 folders. There are no entries in the MRU and there is lots of blank space below the last 'pinned' entry. Have you any suggestions how to go about correcting this quirk? Thanks again. "Wesley Vogel" wrote in message ... Called the Pinned items list. From XP HELP... Number of programs on Start menu
[[Specifies the maximum number of programs to display in the most frequently used programs list on the Start menu. Lorraine asks: When I start my computer l get a note saying "Some items cannot be shown. There is not enough room to show all items you have added to the start menu. Please choose smaller icons or choose a smaller number of icons or unpin some icons. ". I right clicked on a blank part of the toolbar, then selected 'properties' 'StartMenu' 'Customize' 'Small Icons'. Instead of getting the same number of icons, only smaller, what happened was that the icons became smaller, but additional icons were added from the desktop. The result is that the same amount of space is used, and I still get the message about "...not enough room etc." I do not want to lose any of the items in the start menu. I really just want to get rid of the message, and perhaps make more room. I am using Windows XP. Hope you can help. A. Never seen this one before - all I can suggest is that you delete as many desktop shortcuts as possible (this will not delete the actual applications or access to the functionality of the programs) - but it may fix the problem. Lorraine responds. As l didn't have any shortcuts to delete I contacted Microsoft. They suggested that I alter my screen resolution from 800x600 to 1024x768. They explained how to do this, and it worked. I no longer have that annoying message. ]] http://www.aboutseniors.com.au/Compu...hives2003.html -- Hope this helps. Let us know. Thank you,Wesley once again. Yes, I found most of what you presented here and tried all the suggestions to no avail. I am puzzled by the statement above about 'up to 14.' If that is the case, why does the customization feature for the Start Menu allow you to set 30 as the maximum and why can I have, right now, 18 on the left side with a several blank lines below the last one? They all work properly except for the annoying pop up. ...... Much Snipped ..... I think it might be time to step back, organize what I have done and start a new thread.
