I had to take a class on Word once, asked about subdocs and using them. Eventually the word came back - there are two sorts of sub document sorts in Word: the corrupted, and the "not corrupted yet". I basically agree with you, but I wouldn't put it quite as strongly as you do. I would. Having to scrap my wife off the ceiling after she's dealt with Word, nope, I'll stick to WP. OTOH, I'll admit, I started with WP when it was WordStar and have migrated along with platform and program changes. -- pyotr filipivich Next month's Panel: Graft - Boon or blessing? |

OTOH, I'll admit, I started with WP when it was WordStar and have migrated along with platform and program changes. AFAIK, WordPerfect was never WordStar. WordStar was a competing program: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WordPerfect "The program was originally developed under contract at Brigham Young University for use on a Data General minicomputer in 1979. The authors retained the rights to the program, forming Satellite Software International (SSI) to sell it under the name WordPerfect in 1980. A port to DOS followed in 1982 and several greatly updated versions quickly followed. The application's feature list was considerably more advanced than its main competition, WordStar, an established program that originated on CP/M." The only reason Microsoft Word became so popular is that Microsoft was giving it away bundled on new computers until the user base outnumbered those using WP. I remember it well, knew what was going on at the time, was using WP 5.1 for DOS at the college I where I worked. -- John Corliss |

As far as I'm concerned, the reason that WordPerfect lost its number one position to Microsoft Word is that WordPerfect 6.0 was a very buggy release and caused many people to abandon it. |

I just remember using it when it was in the low single digit versions, on DOS. What hurt WP was the 'delay' in rolling out a Windows compatible version. I developed a huge Contrarian streak with regards to software, long about that point in time, myself. tschus pyotr -- pyotr filipivich Next month's Panel: Graft - Boon or blessing? |
