Default Show empty DVD drive

Hi All,

In Windows Explorer (WE) (NOT IE), when I want the DVD drive to show
even when it does not have a disk inserted, I go into WE Folder
Properties and click on "show all folders".

Problem: About half the W10 computer I come across do
not have this option.

Is there a way around this? Maybe a registry switch?

Many thanks,
-T

It should show up automatic if you click on "This PC". See this image:

Not if it is an ejectable AHCI device. It won't show
unless you put a disk into it. But only about 1/2
the time, which is the big mystery.

See this page...
http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/7...dows-10-a.html
.... which has four different ways to change that setting.

(a) I presume you are using this page's "Option Three" to
turn on "show all folders".

(b) The registry switch is this page's "Option Four".

(c) Just FYI, I use this page's "Option One".

My version of Linux (Xbuntu) doesn't show an empty drive. Until you put
something in it, an empty drive is just a hardware device. Presumably
most people don't care unless you just want to know if the drive is
loaded, but if it is loaded then it will show up!

Hi Dave,

You mean it shows as an icon on the desktop when you put a disk
in the drive. The drive itself in always shows in /dev.

$ ls -al /dev/sr0
brw-rw----+ 1 root cdrom 11, 0 Oct 9 15:11 /dev/sr0

Eject:
eject /dev/sr0

Inject:
eject -t /dev/sr0

You don't have to have a disk in the drive for the above
commands to work. Linux is way more flexible about
such things than is Windows.
