Program that searches for problems with XP?

Can anyone provide me with the address of a program that can search XP for
problem files or lost files etc. I cannot use Sun Java and cannot open Word
at the moment, and was able to do both up to last week. Can only use Wordpad.
Done many things without avail. Have all the updates. This is my last step
before I just go ahead and reinstall the monster.

Exactly what happens when you try to open Word?
What are the symptoms you're attributing to Sun Java?
Please provide details and exact error messages.
What version of Word, and of Sun Java, is installed?

Neither Sun Java nor Word are native Windows programs....Word comes with MS Office
and the Works Suite; Sun Java is a third-party application. You would get a better
answer your Word problems in a Word or Office group.

Have you run any of the many free antivirus, spyware and malware detectors?
It might be a trojan or a worm got thru.

I think you need to indicate a lot more of the details in order to get any
kind of reliable asnwers. Descriptions of how things fail, exact error
messages, describe your system, etc..
