Default XP Bootup - Locks after splash

I have an exsisting XP installation that decided today to lock up. As soon
as you get past the "Windows XP" splash screen, the CD spins up, and then the
screen just goes black. When booting in "Safe Mode," it loads the drivers
and then just sits there with all the driver paths listed on the screen doing
nothing. I tried putting in the OEM disk, and even in set-up, it goes
through all the drivers and then just locks up. Any thoughts?

Instead of running setup, when you boot to the setup CD, press 'r' for
repair, and the Recovery Console prompt. Use the command:

CHKDSK /R

This may repair your hard drive enough to start XP and run another command:

SFC /Scannow
