Recoverable or not?
'Morning everyone. Had some problems with my a hardware upgrade of my SP3
machine, and now that the hardware is fixed, it won't boot. Here's the current status: 1) If I try to boot normally, I get to the login screen. If I try to log in as any of the users on the machine, it tells me that I must activate Windows to proceed. When I click OK, it loads my background image and then just sits there. 2) If I try to boot into safe mode, I get a BSOD and it reboots. 3) If I try to do a "repair install" from my original install media (either SP2 or SP3), it goes all the way through, then reboots to a black screen with the Windows logo on it and says "please wait" forever. At this point, I've about given up on trying to make it work, but is there anything else I can do before reinstalling on a spare disk and starting from scratch? When you say "forever" how long did you actually wait? If you let it sit overnight with no results I'd say it's time for a fresh install |

This is due to the system configuration having changed enough that the
Window's installation disk no-longer recognises the machine as the original - if you replace the hardware you have installed / upgraded, back to the original, then XP install should complete without it asking for you to register it (that is, if the installation disk you are using is the OEM¹ version that came as a back-up to the same machine it came with). == Cheers, Tim Meddick, Peckham, London. :-) ¹OEM=Original Equipment Manufacturer "Colin B." wrote in message ... The apps and data are all still there, there must be some way of rebuilding the information necessary to make it boot again, but I don't see how. Just a thought - if you use the [F8] key to boot to the [pre-Windows]
Start-Up Menu, choose Last Known Good, or.... Boot into Safe-Mode (using the same menu as above), and perform a System Restore. Any hardware you replaced and / or upgraded, will no longer perform correctly, but the system should, at least, boot. Then you will be in a better position to save (export) your system settings. Also, you may want to browse this : - http://mazimi.wordpress.com/2007/07/...-virtualizing/ == Cheers, Tim Meddick, Peckham, London. :-) "Colin B." wrote in message ... philo wrote: On 12/28/2011 12:49 AM, Colin B. wrote: 'Morning everyone. XP Install FIXED!
For the sake of posterity and those who may come looking in the future,
I wanted to post this. As you may recall, my XP install got messed up after a (failed) hardware upgrade. When I booted normally, it kept trying to activate itself, and just sat indefinitely. Tim Meddick wrote: (...) Also, you may want to browse this : - http://mazimi.wordpress.com/2007/07/...-virtualizing/ This was the answer! ${WINDOWS}/system32/wpa.dbl was corrupt, and for some reason wasn't getting fixed by online activation. I copied it (and wpa.bak as well) to a safe place, and then copied wpa.bak onto wpa.dbl, all via a Linux boot disk. Rebooted, and it went off to properly activate. That's it. Copy wpa.bak to wpa.dbl, and you're off to the races. Stupid MS paranoia. Colin --- Posted via news://freenews.netfront.net/ - Complaints to --- |

Thanks, Colin Posted via news://freenews.netfront.net/ - Complaints to Hi, 1) Hi it might requiring you to validate window xp, because when you update your window it checked its validity and if it found not real key so it was deleted. 2) BSOD occurs when there is a hardware problem, mostly hardware problem occurs when your RAM or HDD any one of them not responding or need to plug it tightly. If you observe your hard drive noising or stuck during work then try to format your HDD and then install the window it will resolve your problem. For more help techyv.com/questions/what-blue-screen-death-bsod. If problem still exist then let us know or resolved then share your experience. |
